กลวิธีการแปลความสุภาพในบริบททางการแพทย์ : กรณีศึกษาบทบรรยายใต้ภาพ เรื่อง Grey's anatomy

Abstract

การวิจัยนี้มุ่งศึกษาการใช้ความสุภาพเชิงวัจนปฏิบัติศาสตร์และกลวิธีการแปลความสุภาพเชิงวัจนปฏิบัติศาสตร์ในบริบททางการแพทย์จากบทสนทนาภาษาอังกฤษเป็นบทบรรยายใต้ภาพภาษาไทยของละครชุดทางโทรทัศน์เรื่อง Grey's Anatomy โดยใช้แนวคิด Grand Strategy of Politeness (Leech, 2007) จากผลการศึกษา พบว่าแพทย์กล่าวถ้อยคำแสดงความสุภาพทั้งสิ้น 1,879 ถ้อยคำ โดยพบการกล่าวถ้อยคำแสดงความคิดเห็นสูงถึงร้อยละ 41.11 และพบการกล่าวทวนถ้อยคำผู้ฟังเป็นวิธีการกล่าวถ้อยคำแสดงความสุภาพด้านความเห็นอีกประเภทหนึ่งซึ่งลีชไม่ได้กล่าวถึง (Leech, 2007) รองลงมาเป็นการกล่าวถ้อยคำแสดงความสุภาพด้วยการกล่าวขอร้องร้อยละ 10.87 อีกทั้งพบว่า การเปลี่ยนแปลงสถานภาพตามลำดับชั้นในสายงานของแพทย์ ไม่ใช่ปัจจัย ที่ส่งผลต่อระดับความสุภาพ ในด้านการแปล ผู้แปลเลือกใช้กลวิธีการแปลเอาความมากกว่า การแปลตรงตัวในการถ่ายทอดความสุภาพและสร้างความเข้าใจให้ผู้ชม ร่วมกับการใช้คำลงท้ายที่ช่วยสื่อความสุภาพและปรับบทแปลให้เป็นธรรมชาติ

This research investigates the use of pragmatic politeness and the strategies used for translating the pragmatic politeness in the medical context from English into Thai for subtitling the television series Grey's Anatomy based on Leech's (2007) Grand Strategy of Politeness. The results found that doctors in the drama series produced 1,879 polite utterances. Polite opinion utterances were found in 41.11% cases of polite utterances, of which hearer's paraphrasing utterances which were produced by speakers was observed and could be classified as that of polite opinion technique not mentioned by Leech (Leech, 2007). The use of polite request utterances featured in 10.87% of total polite utterances. Doctor's career promotion in medical schools was not found as an influencing factor on the degree of politeness. For translation strategies, the translator favored free translation over literal translation in order to convey politeness and to facilitate the audience's understanding. Final particles were added by the translator to convey politeness and natural language in the translation.
