Abstract
Nowadays, many schools and universities over the world are closing due to unstable situations caused by an outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, blended learning, an innovative concept that incorporates the benefits of traditional classroom teaching and Information Communication Technology (ICT), has been adopted to teach various health science classes. In this regard, the aim of this research was to identify how one can apply blended learning course designs based on ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation) model in health science education. Methodology of this research started with the identification of the problem, database search, reliability assessment, usage evaluation, and analysis of evaluation quality. Overall, according to the study of 10 empirical pieces of evidence, the optimal analysis techniques that have been widely used to identify problems and participants’ needs by most studies are literature review and survey. For design, face-to-face teaching should be the core teaching approach for every blended learning as it is the most effective teaching approach for every health science field
whereas other teaching approaches such as group discussion or role play should act as complementary approaches to make the class more engaging and more knowledgeable. Furthermore, additional learning materials such as a learning management system and online tests should be added as a complement to make the class more comprehensive and enable students to study independently. For development and implementation, it is recommended that the class owner implement the designed blended learning course in a pilot study to test the initial effectiveness, gather primary information, reduce risks, and save time and money. Lastly, in evaluation, it is recommended that tests and a satisfaction survey are applied to gauge the obtained knowledge and identify the course satisfaction among participants, respectively. In conclusion, even though blended learning is effective in health science education, it is hard to pinpoint the best blended learning method for each individual classroom as it must be tailored to suit different groups of health science students in different learning environments and different cultures as each class has different learning objectives and learning preferences.IMPLICATION OF THE THEMATIC PAPER. Health science instructors can utilize the findings of this study to develop a blended learning program based on the ADDIE model concept, which can significantly increase academic achievement.
