dc.description.abstractThis study investigates the mechanical and corrosion properties of AISI 304 stainless steel joints welded with ER308, ER316L, and ER385 (904 L) filler metals using GTAW. Mechanical testing revealed that all filler metals exhibited higher ultimate tensile strength (UTS) than the base metal (510 MPa), with no significant differences in UTS among them (P-Value = 0.18). Pitting corrosion tests conducted in a 3.5% NaCl solution showed that ER385 (904 L) demonstrated superior resistance, as indicated by a higher pitting potential (Epit) compared to ER316L and ER308. These results suggest that while all filler metals are mechanically suitable for welding AISI 304, ER385 (904 L) offers enhanced corrosion resistance in chloride environments.
