dc.description.abstract | The aim of this research was to study the effect of classroom climate based on technological instruction on student's English learning performance at SMAN 1 Taliwang West Sumbawa Regency, Indonesia. The purposes of this paper were 1) to compare the differences in student's English learning performance between before and after study with technological instruction and learning climate, 2) to compare the differences in student's English learning performance between students who study with technological instruction and learning climate and students who study with traditional teaching method and 3) to determine the role of student perceptions toward classroom climate based on the technological instruction. The study applied purposive sampling to select 2 classes from SMAN 1 Taliwang West Sumbawa Regency, Indonesia. The study finally employed 59 students from a total of 586 students and divided them into experimental group (30 students from social science) and control group (29 students from science). The instruments used were pre-test, post-test, and a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using pair t-test to compare the student's score on English learning performance. The findings of the study indicated that learning English in a classroom climate based on technological instruction had a significance effect on student's English learning performance with mean labeled 92.60, and the level of student's performance was rated as the highest. Students who were taught with technological instruction and learning climate perceived positive perceptions and significantly achieved better in English post-test than those who were taught with traditional teaching method. It was concluded that learning English in a classroom climate based on technological instruction seems to be an appropriate instructional model that could be used to solve the problems of English teaching and learning. On the basis of the results, it was recommended that teaching and learning through technological instruction and learning climate be adopted to enhance the academic performance of students. | |
