Abstract
This study investigated teachers' perception of Miao language and culture preservation in China. The main goal was to compare the teachers' perception of preserving the Miao language and culture in primary school curriculum in LuXi County based on their age, gender and educational background. Proportion sampling method was used to select 433 teachers as a sample. This was a quantitative and qualitative research which used a questionnaire to collect quantitative data, and Interview questions to collect qualitative data. Descriptive and inferential statistics, t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to compare the teachers' perception based on their age, gender, and educational background where qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. The result confirmed that there was no significant difference on the teachers' perception of the preservation of the Miao language and culture in the primary school curriculum by their age, gender and educational background. The finding also showed that teachers had high regard of the Miao language and culture preservation in the primary school curriculum but there were lots of challenges. The study suggested that community leaders, local governments, school principals and teachers should take action to provide the Miao language and culture curriculum in the primary school according to their local situations and context.
