Abstract
This chapter describes the common paediatric surgical condition of infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS). It covers the presenting symptoms, clinical exam findings and diagnostic tests. We explain the physiology and principles of resuscitation of the affected infant with IHPS. Pyloromyotomy is the definitive treatment, and it can be performed by open classical or minimally invasive surgery (MIS) operation(s). Intraoperative and postoperative complications are highlighted and summarised.
