Abstract
Climate change has become a major issue for the international community. The impacts of climate change including environmental degradation, relate to future human mobility. The relationship between human mobility and environmental change is very complicated and the Socio Economic sector of Ayeyarwady Delta is highly vulnerable to extreme weather events. This thesis was divided into two one studied the climatic variance data between 1986-2015, using interviews conducted in 2015 focusing on mobility between 2008-2015. This study was conducted with the following objectives. Firstly, to study human mobility from climate variance. Secondly, to analyze the relationship between human mobility and climate variance, and finally to compare the current vulnerability between two villages. The results from 150 interviews indicated that over 90% of interviewees in the study area ranged in the moderately vulnerable group. The total mean vulnerability score was slightly higher for Bin Ga Lar than Ma Yan Kwe, and Bin Ga Lar had higher impact of climate variance than Ma Yan Kwe (However, with respect to the sensitivity score for health, food and water conditions, Ma Yan Kwe scored more highly than Bin Ga Lar) yet with regards to adaptive capacity, Bin Ga Lar had higher scores than Ma Yan Kwe. Somewhat surprisingly, the percentage of people with mobility was 56.5% in Ma Yan Kwe, compared to Bin Ga Lar's 26.2%, between 2008 to 2015. Ma Yan Kwe village also had a higher sensitivity subject with a higher percentage of people with mobility. Multiple regression Test showed that there was no direct significant correlation between human mobility and climate variance. However, climatic change brought negative consequences to the people who practice agriculture and fishing as well. Poor landless people were the most affected by climatic variance because they had less economic resources to help them to adapt to the environmental changes. This reason forced the affected people to decide to move to other places so as to cater for their needs
