dc.description.abstractThe objectives of this qualitative research were to study the pattern of alcohol consumption affecting domestic violence and to study the characteristics and extent of domestic violence. The research collected data using in-depth structure interview questionnaires, voice record, and non-participating observation. The sample group contained 17 people, of which 8 were perpetrators and 9 were victims of domestic violence. Data analysis was done utilizing the descriptive method. The research has identified a pattern of alcohol consumption that affects domestic violence. It shows that the perpetrators started drinking alcohol between 15 to 22 years of age and had drunk alcohol for more than 10 years. The common types of alcohol were Thai traditional vodka (Lao Khao), Brown spirit (Lao See) and beer. In terms of frequency of alcohol consumption, the perpetrators drank everyday or almost everyday. In respect of the quantity of alcohol consumption each time, the Thai traditional vodka (Lao Khao)'s group drank half to two bottles, the Brown spirit (Lao See)'s group drank half to one and half bottles, and the beer's group drank one to two and half bottles. For the location of alcohol consumption, it is found that those who drank at home alone in the evening spent around 60 baht each time. Those who drank at home alone all day spent around 80-200 baht, and those who drank with friends after work spent 200 baht or more each time. In relation to the characteristics and extent of domestic violence, male perpetrators committed medium level of psychological violence most often, which included yelling and raising the voice. For the female victims, they experienced medium level of psychological violence the most, which included yelling, and raising voices. In terms of physical violence, it is found that the male perpetrators committed strong level of physical violence the most, including kicking, and punching.
