According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the initiation of healthy dietary practices, commencing with breastfeeding from an early age, not only fosters optimal physical growth but also plays a crucial role in enhancing cognitive development. This cognitive development is considered a pivotal aspect in ensuring the overall well-being of an individual as they mature. The significance of ensuring access to quality nutrition for children, who are future leaders, cannot be overemphasized. Therefore, guaranteeing their access to adequate nutrition emerges as a paramount factor within the realm of public health, as it directly shapes the vitality and potential of the upcoming generation. Throughout history, various initiatives and policies have been implemented to bolster childhood nutrition, notably through the establishment of school meal programs and other targeted interventions. In this context, our examination delves into both past and present advancements in nutrition programs for children. It emphasizes not only the fundamental importance of proper nutrition in child development but also the multifaceted challenges that these programs often encounter. This chapter not only delves into the historical and ongoing progress of nutrition programs for children, highlighting their significance in promoting health and well-being, but also acknowledges the limitations and obstacles that these programs may face, underscoring the complexities inherent in ensuring consistent access to quality nutrition for all children.
