Ethical sensitivity among Pharmacy Students, Mahidol University

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to determine the ethical sensitivity in pharmacy students of Mahidol University, evaluate the relation between personal data and ethical sensitivity, find out the factors influencing ethical sensitivity, and compare the methodology of data collection. A survey research, cross-sectional analytic study, was conducted during September-November 2016. All undergraduate pharmacy students were invited to join the study. The data were collected using 2 methods as a case study method and a short movie method. Descriptive statistics were used for a part of ethical sensitivity score, t-test was used for a part of methodology comparison, and multiple linear regression was performed to find the factor affecting ethical sensitivity. The result showed the ethical sensitivity was at a moderate level by the ethical sensitivity mean score in the case study method (n=203) of 4.52 ± 1.54 which is in the moderate level, and in the short movie method (n=202) of 3.79 ± 1.36. The ethical sensitivity mean score in the case study method was statistically higher (p < 0.01) than the short movie method. In addition, the factors affecting ethical sensitivity were gender, grade of Pharmacy Laws and Ethics course, attitude to general ethics ethical role model and staying status by r2 = 0.12. In this study, it was found that the students' ethical sensitivity should be improved to avoid ethical issue. Both of the case studies and the short movies might be used as instruments in teaching ethics or determining ethical sensitivity in curriculum.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวัดความไวต่อประเด็นจริยธรรมวิชาชีพของนักศึกษาเภสัชศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล เพื่อประเมินความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างข้อมูลส่วนบุคคลกับความไวต่อประเด็นจริยธรรมวิชาชีพ เพื่อค้นหาปัจจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง และเพื่อเปรียบเทียบวิธีการศึกษา ระหว่างวิธีการอ่านกรณีศึกษา และวิธีดูภาพยนตร์สั้น ทำการศึกษาในช่วงเดือน กันยายน ถึง พฤศจิกายน ปี พ.ศ. 2559 โดยการเชิญชวนให้นักศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีทุกคนเข้าร่วม การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลในส่วนของคะแนนความไวต่อประเด็นจริยธรรมวิชาชีพ และข้อมูลทั่วไปใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนา ส่วนการเปรียบเทียบผลจากแต่ละวิธีการเก็บข้อมูลใช้ t-test และการวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อความไวต่อประเด็นจริยธรรมวิชาชีพใช้ multiple regression analysis ผลการศึกษาพบว่าความไวต่อประเด็นจริยธรรมวิชาชีพของนักศึกษาในส่วนของผลคะแนนจากวิธีการอ่านกรณีศึกษามีค่าคะแนน 4.52 ± 1.54 (n = 203) ซึ่งอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง โดยสูงกว่าคะแนนในกลุ่มดูภาพยนตร์สั้นที่มีคะแนน 3.79 ± 1.36 (n = 202) อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (p < 0.01) นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่า ตัวแปรที่มีอิทธิพล ต่อคะแนนความไวต่อประเด็นจริยธรรม มี 5 ตัวแปรได้แก่ เพศ เกรดวิชากฎหมายและจรรยาบรรณทางเภสัชกรรม ทัศนคติต่อจริยธรรมทั่วไป การมีต้นแบบทางจริยธรรม และการอยู่อาศัยกับครอบครัว ซึ่งสามารถร่วมกันทำนายความไวต่อประเด็นจริยธรรมวิชาชีพนักศึกษาได้ร้อยละ12 (r(2) = 0.12) จากการศึกษา พบว่านักศึกษาควรได้รับการพัฒนาความไวต่อประเด็นจริยธรรมวิชาชีพในทุกประเด็น เพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงความเสี่ยงในการเกิดการกระทำ ผิดจริยธรรมวิชาชีพ โดยอาจใช้กรณีศึกษา และ ภาพยนตร์สั้นในการศึกษานี้ เป็นเครื่องมือสาหรับการเรียนการสอนด้านจริยธรรมในหลักสูตร อีกทั้งยังอาจใช้ในการประเมินทักษะด้านความไวทางจริยธรรมของนักศึกษาเภสัชศาสตร์ ต่อไป
