Improvisational style analysis of terence blanchard's characteristic from selected tunes in the album Let's Get Lost

Abstract

The purposes of this recital document were to analyze Terence Blanchard improvisation style from selected tunes in the album Let's Get Lost to contribute to the author's recital preparation. Five tunes were selected from the album Let's Get Lost to study Blanchard's improvisation style and characteristic. The selected tunes were Let's Get Lost, I Can't Give You Anything But Love, I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me, On the Sunny Side of the Street, You're a Sweetheart. In this analysis, the author categorized Blanchard's characteristic of improvisation from selected tunes regarding the harmonic device, melodic device, rhythmic device, and nuance or special effect technique. The results of the study and analysis contributed to improve the interested trumpeters and the author's skill and knowledge follow Blanchard's improvisation style in the album and could be applied to the author's performance practicing for the graduate recital. This characteristic analysis was presented as partial fulfilment of the requirement for the graduate recital document.
