The performance guide and analysis of concerto for trumpet in E-flat major by Johann Nepomuk Hummel

Abstract

The concerto for trumpet by Johann Nepomuk Hummel is the standard repertoire which every trumpet player should study. However, people, in general, lack the background knowledge and the understanding of the correct practice. The purpose of this thematic paper is to provide information regarding the historical background of Johann Nepomuk Hummel and his Concerto for Trumpet in E-Flat Major. This thematic paper also analyzed the music form, interpretation, and important techniques to perform this Hummel’s concerto in every movement, and explained the comparison between the differences of playing this concerto of Hummel on both trumpet in Bb and trumpet in Eb. The thematic paper also recommended an exercise book along with the practice of the concerto for trumpet to achieve the most complete performance. Moreover, the author provided practical guidelines for the most difficult passages and how to fix them from the concerto with examples of the scores and also descriptions based on the author’s practice and recital, which can facilitate people who are interested, especially students. They can use this research in their studies and performances effectively.
