Abstract
The world of partial foot prostheses is growing more and more, primarily driven by amputee demand. There is a need to know the common benefits and quality information on the biomechanical effects of different types of prostheses for partial foot amputees. Furthermore, for Chopart amputee, clamshell prosthesis is the most normalized biomechanical gait pattern. However, some biomechanical parameters are still less than optimal. This study aimed to evaluate the evidence available for patients with partial foot amputation regarding prosthesis outcome measurement in the Time Up and Go test, temporal-spatial parameters, kinetics, and kinematics. Moreover, to compare the function and comfort of a Chopart amputee to evaluate gait when wearing a standard clamshell prosthesis and a modified clamshell prosthesis. The result showed that systematic review of literature collected 64 citations and 10 publications were selected for review. The scoping systematic review was based on the PICO model. The reviewed study evidence showed that after partial foot amputation, there was an effect on the biomechanical gait parameters: Time Up and Go test, ground reaction force, center of pressure excursion, moment, power, and all kinematics parameters. Furthermore, the biomechanical gait analysis evaluated the experimentally modified clamshell prosthesis on a unilateral Chopart amputee compared to the standard clamshell prosthesis. The modified clamshell prosthesis saw more normal gait and force measurements. The conclusion is that affecting the gait parameter after partial foot amputation could be increased by providing the prosthesis. However, the improvement of gait function depended on the level of amputation, type of prosthesis, limiting the amount of dorsiflexion moment and providing the rehabilitation program. IMPLICATION OF THE THESIS This study helps clinicians and researchers understand the types of prostheses for partial foot amputees based on biomechanical analysis. Therefore, the novel modified clamshell prosthesis provides an alternative design for Chopart amputees which has better gait function than the clamshell prosthesis design.
