A Tribute Concert to Pat Metheny Music from Duet, Trio, to Quartet

Abstract

The purpose of this graduate recital document is to study Pat Metheny's style of playing in different band formats such as duo, trio, and quartet. Pat Metheny is an important guitarist in the contemporary jazz style, and he has a unique style of playing. This study focuses on Pat Metheny's improvisation, chord voicing, and how to adapt playing in the different band formats. The study was made using the following music: 1. Waltz for Ruth composed by Charlie Harden from the album Beyond the Missouri Sky 2. Bright Size Life composed by Pat Metheny from the album Bright Size Life 3. Lone Jack composed by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays from the album Trio 99>00 4. Question and Answer composed by Pat Metheny from the album Question and Answers 5. Say the Brother's Name composed by Pat Metheny from the album Metheny Mehldau. The guitar recital enclosed in digital form was given at Pra Jenduriyanga Recital Hall, College of Music, Mahidol University, on May 8th, 2015.;
