การสื่อความหมายโบราณวัตถุในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ

Abstract

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้เป็นการศึกษาแนวคิดที่อยู่เบื้องหลังกระบวนการสื่อความหมายโบราณวัตถุใน พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติของไทย เพื่อทำความเข้าใจสิ่งที่เป็นตัวกำหนดให้การสื่อความหมายโบราณวัตถุในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติเป็นอย่างที่เป็นอยู่ในปัจจุบัน โดยใช้วิธีวิจัยแบบผสม ได้แก่ (1) วิจัยเอกสาร ผ่าน (1.1) หนังสือนำชมพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติจำนวน 21 แห่ง ตั้งแต่ช่วงปี พ.ศ.2504-2559 กับ (1.2) คำบรรยายวัตถุจัดแสดงในพิพิธภัณฑ์เสมือน (virtual museum) ในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติจำนวน 33 แห่ง และ (2) สังเกตการณ์อย่างมีส่วนร่วมและสัมภาษณ์ผู้สื่อความหมายโบราณวัตถุในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ 2 กลุ่มคือ (2.1) ภัณฑารักษ์กรมศิลปากร และ (2.2) นักพัฒนาเนื้อหานิทรรศการ (content developer) ผลการศึกษาพบว่า การสื่อความหมายโบราณวัตถุในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติของไทย สามารถอธิบายได้ 3 ระดับ คือ (1) ในระดับกายภาพ การสื่อความหมายโบราณวัตถุในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติของไทยมีรูปแบบเดียวกับศิลปะจัดวาง (installation art) มีลักษณะพิเศษคือต้องมีความเป็นอื่นที่ตัดขาดจากห้วงเวลาปัจจุบันจึงต้องมีป้ายบอกระยะเวลา (period) และรูปแบบศิลปะ (style) กำกับเพื่อบ่งบอกว่าสิ่งนี้ไม่ได้เป็นหนึ่งเดียวกับ ปัจจุบัน (2) ในระดับกระบวนการ การสื่อความหมายโบราณวัตถุในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติของไทยในปัจจุบันใช้มุมมองและองค์ความรู้เฉพาะตัวของภัณฑารักษ์เป็นหลัก แม้แต่ในงานมีบริษัทผู้รับจ้างภายนอกเข้ามา มุมมองและการสื่อความหมายโบราณวัตถุจะต้องเป็นไปตามการพิจารณาของภัณฑารักษ์ (3) ในระดับความคิดเบื้องหลัง ผู้วิจัยพบว่า การใช้งานโบราณวัตถุในการสร้างภาพตัวแทนนิยมทางประวัติศาสตร์ผ่านการสื่อความหมายในพิพิธภัณฑ์เป็นมุมมองเพียงมุมมองเดียวที่ผู้สื่อความหมายมีต่อโบราณวัตถุในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติของไทยตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ.2469 กระทั่งถึงปัจจุบัน ซึ่งกรอบแนวคิดเดียวนี้มีความสัมพันธ์กับกรอบมุมมองการสร้างความรู้แบบ "โบราณคดีเก่า" อย่างมีนัยยะสำคัญ

This thesis is a study of the concept behind the process of communicating ancient objects in the National Museum of Thailand in order to understand what determines the interpretation of antiques in the National Museum as it is today by using mixed methods, including (1) researching documents through (1.1) 21 National Museum guide books from 1961-2016 and (1.2) descriptions of objects displayed in 33 virtual museum online, and (2) participant observation and interviews with 6 interpreters of archaeological objects (2.1) curators of the Fine Arts Department and (2.2) the outsource content developers. The results show that interpretation of archaeological objects in the National Museum of Thailand can be explained in 3 levels. (1) The physical level: Exhibition in the form of "installation art" is the consequence of thought that make archaeological objects to be like art objects. Therefore, there must be a sign indicating the period and the art style to clarify these are not the objects of contemporary period. (2) The process level: The archaeological objects interpretation is mainly used by the curator's perspective and art history knowledge. (3) The thought level behind: The use of antiques to create historical representations through the interpretation of the museum is the only perspective that the interpreters have in the National Museum of Thailand since 1926, as the only one conceptual framework which related to the knowledge of "Old archaeology".
