Abstract
This research examines the inventory management of an e-commerce shoe retailer, "Street Style," with approximately 300,000 online shop followers. Due to the business's growth and the increasing inventory, finding products that take a long time has become problematic. Therefore, this research aims to improve the efficiency of the warehouse management system by combining ABC inventory and visual control methods to propose a way to reduce the time spent locating and picking goods in the warehouse. ABC analysis theory is used for grouping the products by prioritizing the product according to its sale performance. The visual control method is also applied to create a label indicating the product type by making a label indicating the stock keeping unit (SKU) on the shelf of each group of products to make it easier to find the product. The experiment is made to examine the improvement of layout rearrangement that applied both ABC analysis and visual control. The findings show that the picking time reduced from an average of 88.70 seconds to 41.65 seconds which accounted for a 53 percent reduction. This result helps to increase the employee’s capacity. Implication of the thematic paper: The study can be used as a guideline for people who interested in improving the warehouse inventory. The detail of concepts, theories, operational procedures, and experiment design can be applied for warehouse efficiency improvement where else. The suggestion for the small businesses is that the relevant factors used in further studies need to be carefully determined such as sales volume, purchase volume, price of products or output volume. Because these factors are varied in a kind and a size of business and it resulting in layout design that would come out differently. For research design, the theory of classification of product to improve warehouse efficiency is not limited in ABC analysis. There are similar theories such as FSN analysis or commodity system that could be applied as well. Also, the method of applying visual control is not limited to just creating labels to indicate the type of product and brand. This principle can also be applied in other ways. Because the visual control is a work control system that allows all employees to easily and clearly understand work steps, goals, and results, such as symbols, colors and etc.
