การศึกษาเชิงวิเคราะห์หลักพุทธจริยธรรมที่ปรากฏในวรรณกรรมของอาจารย์สุชีพ ปุญญานุภาพ ประเภทนวนิยายอิงหลักธรรม

Abstract

The objective of this qualitative research was to analyze Sujib Punyanubhap's moral literature for underlying Buddhist ethical principles. The study consisted of documentary research, in which four of Punyanubhap's novels---Tai Rom Kasawapat, Kongtap Tham, Atit Khuen Tang Tawantok, and Leela Cheevit--- were explored and analyzed; and field research, in which six Buddhist scholars familiar with Punyanubhap's literary works were in-depth interviewed. Results of the study showed that Punyahibhap's novels were imaginatively composed on the basis of Buddhist doctrines with the purpose of religious propagation to laity. The documentary analysis showed that the Buddhist ethical principles therein comprised 1) Pancasila 2) Pancadhamma 3) Trilakkhana 4) Sanghahavattu 5) Bhramavihara 6) Ditthadhammikattha 7)Mangala, and 8) Magga. Moreover, the in-depth interviews showed that all the scholars found the works to be easy to understand and successfully communicate the doctrines to the public by attracting them with enjoyable stories. Moreover, the underlying ethical principles were well selected for laity to apply in their daily course of life. It is suggested that Punyanubhap's literary works are used as a model by new moral literature so as to produce works with contents accessible to laity, and society should support the production of literary works in this genre as part of the present attempt at upholding morality.
