Abstract
An Ethanolic crude extract from the dried stem bark of Peltophorum pterocarpum was previously screened
for the larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti. The strong larvicidal activity of this extract showed high
potential to be developed as a mosquito larvicide’s product. To investigate the effectiveness of the crude extract, 3 species of mosquito larvae such as Aedes aegypti, Culex uinquefasciatus and Anopheles dirus were tested. The bioassay was determined against the early fourth instar larvae by following the standard procedures from WHO, 1998. The crude extract was prepared and tested in various concentrations. The results showed a highly toxic effect against Aedes aegypti, Culex quinquefasciatus and Anopheles dirus larvae with LC50 values of 15.39, 28.12 and 34.19 ppm, respectively and the larvae mortality could be detected within 24 h. Moreover,
only in Anopheles dirus specie that the crude extract affect to the period of larval growth and development. Some abnormal characteristics were presented in pupae stage such as darker in color, size and shape deformation and abnormal pupae could not develop to be adult mosquito.
