Lifestyle and health behavior among foreigner travelers in Bangkok
Abstract
The objective of this study is to asses the life style and health behavior of foreigner travelers who visit Bangkok. A Cross sectional descriptive was design. Rapid survey by structured questionnaire was collected from 125 foreigner travelers who understood English in Bangkok. Foreign travelers was selected one in every 10 persons found.
Results found that 43.2% of foreigner travelers were between 21-30 years with 22 nationalities. There were 7 religions identified with Christians being the most numerous (61.6%). They had bachelor degrees or higher (59.2%) for their education, and were employed (50.4%) in some occupation. The majority (74.4%) earned monthly income 1000-4000 US$. Travelers carried belongings such as sun block (74.4%), insect repellant (53.6%). Some variety of activities done, including shopping (81.6%) and massage (66.4%). This travelers smoke cigarettes 20%. Only 1.6% had a new sexual partner during travel and reported not to have used a condom during sexual activity. The survey showed that travelers preferred Thai food (75.2%). The popular Thai dishes were Pad Thai (55.2%) and Tom Yum soup (39.2%). When drinking water, respondents indicated they chose mineral water (61.6%) and bottled water (48.0%) most frequently.
In general, this sample of foreigner travelers had good hygiene. The information gained from this study offers useful information for organizations that represent tourism, health, or commerce to inspire more strategic plans meant to improve the experience of the traveler in Thailand.
