Abstract
This mixed methods research (Exploratory Sequential Design) study aims at studying the socialization of e-sport professionals (phase 1) by employing biographical research to synthesize the fundamental factors leading to self-awareness achievement. 8 e-sport professionals were the major key informants. For the second phase, the exploration of the main constructs of a set of items generated from the first phase of this study was analyzed by Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). 225 students whose ages were between 14 and 16 years old studying in Bangkok, Thailand completed a set of inventories on self-awareness. The results of the first phase indicated that there were 4 periods of socialization to drive them to become e-sport professionals; former life, turning point, experiencing the career, and forthcoming possibility in the career. The findings of the second phase indicated seven factors; Perceiving acceptance from others, Reflecting self and social value, Believing in self and personal thoughts, Being pleased with achievement and admire own dignity, Perceiving one’s own preference, Connecting skills and preferences, and Perceiving own strengths and weaknesses. The further research can apply this set of inventories to construct the self-awareness training programs which strengthen students’ decision making of the right major for further study.
