dc.description.abstractPurpose: This study aim to community survey of health status in the elderly, who reside in the municipal area of Tambon Salaya, Nakhon-Pathom. Participants: A sample of 900 people aged 60 years and over living at home in the municipal area of Tambon Salaya, Nakhon-Pathom. Methods: Cross-sectional community survey, followed by a more aggressive approach that included face-to-face contact. The elderly was interviewed using a structured schedule containing demographics, clinical characteristics and the barthel index activities of daily living (Thai version). Analysis: Data were analyzed by SPSS for windows version 14 software. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize demographics, clinical characteristics and independency. Results: Total prevalence rates were 70% for 60-69 years, 20% for 70-79, and 10% for 80 years over. Of the 55% reporting hypertension, 35% were diabetes mellitus, 25% cardiovascular accident and 12.5% for hypercholesterolemia, prostatomegaly, glaucoma and gastric insufflation. Fewer than 50% of the subjects sought medical attentions after have a fall. There were 57.5% for stick exercise, 57.5% were Rusie Dutton, 7.5% reporting Tai Chi and 37.5%) for the other exercises. There were 100% of the cases of independent in self-care. Clinical implication: The findings of this study could be a guideline for planning an appropriate health promotion and therapeutic in community, who reside in the municipal area of Tambon Salaya, Nakhon-Pathom.en_US
