Abstract
The present study was carried out to determine the susceptibility of the most predominant species of mosquioes, Culex sitiens, in Tsunami-affected areas of Phang Nga Province to subperiodic Brugia malayi. The female mosquitoes raised under laboratory conditions from the larvae collected from the breeding places in the affected-areas. The laboratory stock colony of Aedes togoi was the susceptible control. Mosquitoes were allowed to feed when 3 to 5 days old microfilaremic cat with a microfilarial density of 100-500 per 20 up blood obtained from the endemic area of Surat Thani Province. The development of microfilariae in the mosquiotes was detected by dissection 14 days after feeding. Cx. Sitiens proved refactory. This is a conclusive evidence that Cx. Sitiens cannot naturally support the complete development of subperiodic B. malayi.
