Abstract
Prior to the emergence of evidence-based medicine (EBM) much of clinical practice was dominated and influenced by expert opinion(s). EBM philosophy seeks to optimize clinical decision making by sourcing the “best evidence” from well-designed conducted research. Surgical oncology has steadily advanced in this arena embracing core principles and practice with delivery of best care where possible. This chapter seeks to highlight some key developments and makes an effort to illustrate that as providers of health care we still have many “unanswered questions” that will likely only be adequately addressed by future well-designed surgical led trials.
