The design of electronic mobile application for medication reconciliation in Thailand

Abstract

Medication errors pose significant risks within the medical process, encompassing various stages such as prescription, transcription, dispensation, monitoring, and medication information management, ultimately impacting patient care. Implementing medication reconciliation processes has emerged as a preventive measure, involving verifying, and adjusting patient medication lists in hospitals to mitigate errors during treatment. This comprehensive approach includes collecting and consolidating medication data, comparing and validating information, and transmitting it accurately across healthcare departments. This research focuses on investigating the factors and reasons contributing to the limited interest in utilizing mobile health applications for medication data recording and identifying the requirements for future health-related application functionalities. The study employed online surveys and questionnaires, gathering responses from 305 participants. The collected data will serve as a guideline for designing a prototype of a Medication Reconciliation Application. However, the patient medication record still has limited, it may result from unacessibility, difficulty of mobile application, and unawareness of medication discrepancy. Hence, the researcher needs to identify the gap and design an application that is easy to use. It aims to meet the requirements among patients, care givers and health professionals. The research findings revealed that over 93.77% of the respondents had no experience using mobile applications for medication data recording. This can be attributed to social factors and a need for more awareness regarding such applications. Additionally, it was found that consumers may need to be made aware of advertisements or promotions by application developers, which is another reason for the lack of interest in using health applications. To enhance medication safety and prevent errors effectively, developers must prioritize creating user-friendly applications catering to general users and medical professionals. Moreover, it is essential to raise consumer awareness regarding the benefits of such applications. By doing so, the potential for maximizing benefits and effectively reducing medication errors can be realized. Implication of thematic paper: The results of this research can be used as a prototype for designing a Medication Reconciliation Application that follows the standards of the medication reconciliation process. It can also help app developers analyze and understand the factors or reasons why users need more interest in using applications in the market. Furthermore, it provides insights into users’ functional requirements for the future development of medication recording applications.

ความคลาดเคลื่อนทางยาเป็นหนึ่งในข้อผิดพลาดที่สามารถพบได้ในกระบวนการทางการแพทย์ตั้งแต่กระบวนการสั่งยา การคัดลอกใบสั่งยา การจ่ายยา การติดตามและการจัดการข้อมูลยาที่อาจมีผลต่อการดูแลผู้ป่วย หนึ่งในมาตรการป้องกันเพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงปัญหานี้คือการดำเนินกระบวนการประสานรายการยา (Medication Reconciliation) ซึ่งเป็นกระบวนการตรวจสอบและปรับปรุงรายการยาของผู้ป่วยในโรงพยาบาล เพื่อลดความคลาดเคลื่อนทางยาในระหว่างการดูแลผู้ป่วย โดยมีขั้นตอนการเก็บรวบรวม การเปรียบเทียบ การตรวจสอบ และการส่งต่อรายการยาไปยังจุดให้บริการอื่นของโรงพยาบาล เพื่อให้มั่นใจว่าข้อมูลทั้งหมดถูกต้องและสอดคล้องกัน การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่และเหตุผลที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการไม่สนใจใช้งาน Application มือถือเพื่อจุดประสงค์การบันทึกข้อมูลยาและความต้องการที่มีต่อ Function การใช้งานของ Application เพื่อสุขภาพในอนาคต โดยการสำรวจกลุ่มตัวอย่างออนไลน์และการตอบแบบสอบถาม ผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามจำนวน 305 คน ข้อมูลที่ได้จะนำมาเป็นแนวทางในการออกแบบ Prototype สำหรับ Medication Reconciliation Application อย่างไรก็ตาม การบันทึกข้อมูลยาของผู้ป่วยยังมีข้อจำกัดที่อาจเกิดจากการเข้าถึงที่ยากลำบาก ความยากลำบากในการใช้แอปพลิเคชันบนมือถือ หรือความไม่รู้เกี่ยวกับความไม่สอดคล้องในการใช้ยา ดังนั้น นักวิจัยจำเป็นต้องระบุช่องโหว่และออกแบบแอปพลิเคชันที่ใช้งานง่าย เพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการทั้งของผู้ป่วย ผู้ดูแลและผู้ให้บริการด้านสุขภาพ ผลการวิจัยพบว่ามากกว่า 93.77% ของผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามไม่มีประสบการณ์ในการใช้งานแอปพลิเคชันเพื่อบันทึกข้อมูลการใช้ยา ซึ่งเกิดจากปัจจัยทางสังคมและขาดความรับรู้เกี่ยวกับการมีแอปพลิเคชันประเภทนี้อยู่ นอกจากนี้ ยังพบว่าผู้บริโภคอาจไม่รับรู้ข่าวสารโฆษณาหรือการโปรโมทของผู้พัฒนาแอปพลิเคชัน ซึ่งเป็นเหตุผลอีกประการหนึ่งที่ส่งผลต่อการไม่สนใจในการใช้งานแอปพลิเคชันสุขภาพ ดังนั้นเพื่อเพิ่มความปลอดภัยในการใช้ยาและป้องกันความผิดพลาดอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ นักพัฒนาจำเป็นต้องมีให้ความสำคัญในการสร้างแอปพลิเคชันที่ใช้งานง่ายสำหรับผู้ใช้ทั่วไปและผู้มีความเชี่ยวชาญทางการแพทย์ นอกจากนี้ การเพิ่มความตระหนักรู้ของผู้บริโภคเกี่ยวกับประโยชน์ของแอปพลิเคชันเช่นนี้เป็นสิ่งสำคัญ โดยการทำเช่นนี้จะช่วยให้สามารถสร้างประโยชน์สูงสุดและลดความผิดพลาดของการใช้ยาได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ การนำผลของสารนิพนธ์ไปใช้: ผลของงานวิจัยนี้สามารถใช้เพื่อเป็นต้นแบบในการออกแบบ Prototype Application สำหรับการบันทึกข้อมูลยาที่เป็นไปตามมาตรฐานของกระบวนการประสานรายการยา (Medication Reconciliation) นอกจากนั้นยังช่วยให้นักพัฒนาแอพพลิเคชันสามารถวิเคราะห์และตระหนักถึงปัจจัยหรือเหตุผลที่ผู้ใช้งานไม่มีความสนใจใช้งานแอพพลิเคชันในท้องตลาดและสามารถทราบถึงความต้องการของ Function ที่ผู้ใช้งานต้องการต่อการพัฒนาแอพพลิเคชันเพื่อจุดประสงค์ในการบันทึกรายการยาในอนาคต
