Prevalence and factors related with accidents by sharp objects among sugarcane harvest workers in Phetchabun province

Abstract

This study was a cross-sectional study which aimed to study the prevalence and factors related to accidents by sharp objects among sugarcane harvest workers in Phetchabun Province. Data were collected from a sample group of 258 sugarcane harvesting workers in Phetchabun Province by using interview. The result showed that the percentage of the prevalence of accidents caused by sharp objects among workers in sugarcane harvesting in Phetchabun province was 21.3% and 72.7% of accidents were from sharp objects during leaf cutting from the trunk while 27.3% was during the harvesting process of sugarcane stem cutting. Most observed injuries were 70.9% laceration wound and 21.8% stab wound, respectively. Moreover, it was found that the factors which significantly associated with accidents from sharp objects in sugar cane harvesting workers were age, work experience, and the attitude towards no need to wear protective gear while working. Therefore, this study can be the advantage information for harvesting workers in labor groups to prevent the accident during harvesting. In addition, it can be a useful guideline for prevention of injuries from sharp objects in labor workers in the future to reduce those risks.

การศึกษาครั้งนี้ เป็นการศึกษาแบบภาคตัดขวาง (cross-sectional study) ที่มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความชุกและปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับอุบัติเหตุจากของมีคมในกลุ่มแรงงานเก็บเกี่ยวผลผลิตไร่อ้อยจังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ โดยเก็บข้อมูลจากกลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ กลุ่มแรงงานเก็บเกี่ยวผลผลิตไร่อ้อยในจังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ จำนวน 258 คน เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามสัมภาษณ์ ผลการศึกษาพบว่าความชุกการเกิดอุบัติเหตุจากของมีคมในกลุ่มแรงงานเก็บเกี่ยวผลผลิตไร่อ้อยจังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์คิดเป็น ร้อยละ 21.3 โดยการอุบัติเหตุที่พบคืออุบัติเหตุที่เกิดระหว่างการสางใบจากลำต้น ร้อยละ 72.7 และเกิดระหว่างการเก็บเกี่ยวขั้นตอนการตัดลำต้นอ้อย ร้อยละ 27.3 ตามลำดับ ลักษณะของการบาดเจ็บที่พบมากที่สุด คือ แผลฉีกขาด ร้อยละ 70.9 และแผลโดนแทง ร้อยละ 21.8 ตามลำดับ นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่าปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับการเกิดอุบัติเหตุจากของมีคมในกลุ่มแรงงานเก็บเกี่ยวผลผลิตไร่อ้อยอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ ได้แก่ อายุ ประสบการณ์ทำงาน และทัศนคติว่าไม่มีความจำเป็นที่จะต้องสวมใส่อุปกรณ์ป้องกันขณะทำงาน ดังนั้นการศึกษานี้ จึงเป็นข้อมูลที่เป็นประโยชน์สำหรับกลุ่มแรงงานเพื่อป้องกันอุบัติเหตุระหว่างการเก็บเกี่ยว นอกจากนี้ ยังสามารถใช้ในการพัฒนาเพื่อเป็นแนวทางในการป้องกันการบาดเจ็บที่เกิดจากของมีคมในอนาคตเพื่อลดการสูญเสียที่อาจเกิดขึ้นได้
