Abstract
Biological matter is known for its ability to biosorb solubilized heavy metal ions to its surface. Experiments were therefore conducted to assess the biosorption capacity of waste product from the wasetwater treatment of the frozen seafood industry. The effect of operating parameters, such as contact time, pH and co-metal ions competing in synthetic wastewater with the sorption characteristics of both free and immobilized sludge were investigated in batch systems. Moreover, the biosorbent was tested in consecutive biosorption-desorption cycles. The concentration of metals after biosorption were measured using ICP spectroscopy and then were statistically analyzed by ANOVA and DMRT. The results of this study revealed that the biosorption of copper, lead and nickel using free sludge biosorbent was affected by the pH of solutions. The maximum biosorption capacity of copper and nickel occurred at pH 5 and pH 4 for lead, respectively. Also, the contact time of free sludge reached equilibrium within the first 30 min, while the results using the immobilized sludge as biosorbent showed a slower rate to reach the biosorption equilibrium within 5 hours of contact time. Neither Langmuir nor Freundlich models described the metal binding behavior of the sludge biosorbent because of the heterogeneous surface of sludge biosorbent. Hence, the linear part of the isotherm was obtained from the correlation between the residual of metal concentration and the dose biosorbent. The result of a biosorption isotherm demonstrated the order of heavy metal removal by both of free and immobilized sludge biosorbent was lead>copper>nickel. In the tertiary system, among copper, lead and nickel, it was seen that the biosorption capacity of each metal in a mixed solution was higher than the capacity of each metal in a single solution because of the competition among the presence of metals and it was also found that the optimum mixed metal solution was pH 5. Finally, the biosorbent regeneration was conducted and the result indicated that the immobilized sludge biosorbent could be reused in further consecutive biosorption's using an acidic solution.
งานวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษาความสามารถในการดูดซับโลหะหนักทางชีวภาพโดยใช้ ของเสียที่ได้จากระบบบำบัดน้ำเสียอุตสาหกรรมอาหารทะเลแช่แข็ง โดยใช้กากตะกอนอิสระ และกากตะกอนที่ผ่านการตรึงเป็นเม็ด ปัจจัยที่ใช้คือ ระยะเวลาที่ใช้ในการดูดซับ ค่าความเป็นกรดด่างของสารละลาย และความสามารถในการดูดซับโลหะหนักในสารละลาย โลหะเดี่ยวเปรียบเทียบกับสารละลายโลหะผสม นอกจากนี้ยังได้ศึกษาประสิทธิภาพในการ ดูดซับโลหะหนักเมื่อนำกากตะกอนที่ผ่านการตรึงเป็นเม็ดกลับมาใช้ใหม่ การทดลองทั้งหมด ทำในระบบ batch และใช้น้ำเสียสังเคราะห์ ทำการวิเคราะห์โลหะหนักที่เหลืออยู่โดย ใช้เครื่อง Inductive Coupled Plasma Spectroscopy รวมทั้งใช้สถิติ Analysis of Variance และ Duncans Multiple Range Tests ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ผลการศึกษาพบว่า กากตะกอนน้ำเสียสามารถดูดซับโลหะทองแดง ตะกั่วและนิเกิล จากน้ำเสียได้โดยขึ้นกับค่าความเป็นกรดด่างของสารละลาย ทองแดงและนิเกิลมีค่าถูกดูดซับ สูงสุดที่ pH 5 สำหรับตะกั่วถูกดูดซับได้ดีที่ pH 4 โดยขบวนการนี้ ในส่วนของกากตะกอน อิสระเข้าสู่สมดุลการดูดซับอย่างรวดเร็วภายในเวลา 30 นาที ขณะที่กากตะกอนเม็ดจะใช้ เวลานานกว่า ถึง 5 ชั่วโมง สำหรับการคำนวณหาความสามารถในการดูดซับโลหะหนักของ กากตะกอนอิสระและกากตะกอนเม็ดนั้น พบว่าสมการของ Langmuir และ Freundlich ไม่สามารถอธิบายได้ จึงใช้สมการความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างความเข้มข้นของโลหะหนักที่เหลืออยู่ กับปริมาณของกากตะกอนที่ใช้ (Norberg & Rydin) จากการวิเคราะห์โดยความสัมพันธ์ ดังกล่าว พบว่า ทั้งกากตะกอนอิสระและกากตะกอนเม็ดมีคุณสมบัติในการเลือกจับกับโลหะหนัก ที่เหมือนกัน นั่นคือ ตะกั่ว>ทองแดง>นิเกิล สำหรับในกรณีของสารละลายผสมระหว่างทองแดง ตะกั่วและนิเกิล ค่าความเป็นกรดด่างที่เหมาะสมต่อการดูดซับโลหะหนักทั้งสามของสาร ละลายผสมดังกล่าวอยู่ที่ pH 5 โดยประสิทธิภาพในการกำจัดโลหะหนักในสารละลายผสมจะมี ประสิทธิภาพต่ำกว่าการกำจัดโลหะหนักในสารละลายโลหะเดี่ยว ทั้งนี้เนื่องจากการแข่งขัน ของโลหะต่างชนิดกันในสารละลาย สุดท้ายในการศึกษาการนำตัวดูดซับกลับมาใช้ใหม่ พบว่ากากตะกอนที่ผ่านการตึงเม็ดสามารถนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ได้โดยผ่านการชะโลหะหนัก ออกด้วยสารละลายกรด
