dc.description.abstract | Fruit and vegetable production for domestic and export purposes is increasing in Thailand. The Thai government is taking measures to improve the safety of produce through education and training in good agricultural practices and good manufacturing practices. Challenges exist since most farms in Thailand are small operations (≤4ha) that lack resources to implement GAPs. Small farm operators have formed cooperatives resulting in commingling of product hampering traceback investigations to the farm level. Improvements to infrastructure particularly maintenance of a cold chain from the farm to the consumer will improve product quality and safety. The climate of Thailand and Southeast Asia is ideal for fruit and vegetable production but also brings high temperatures and humidity, heavy rain and flooding, suitable conditions for the survival growth and spread of foodborne pathogens. | |
