Abstract
This study is a research survey aimed to identify the environmental performance indicators (EPIs) for non-standard systems and standard systems of swine farms and analyze the evaluation of environmental performance for non-standard system and standard system of swine farm. The study was conducted on 8 swine farms in Ratchaburi province and Chonburi province. Five operational performance indicators (OPIs) were conducted: waste discharge to water resource, natural utilization, sludge / excrement, unpleasant odors and mosquitoes and flies. Moreover, the management performance indicators (MPIs) - environmental policy, environmental problems aspect, legal and regulation, training, and complaints - were included in this study. Environmental risk assessment was used to identify the significant environmental aspects, and the environmental performance evaluation. It was found that there were 5 groups with 12 operational performance indicators for standard and non-standard system of swine farms. The management performance indicators could be placed in 5 groups and there were 8 indicators for standard and non-standard system of swine farms. In the environmental performance evaluation for swine farms it was found that 4 farms were fair and 4 were needed to be improved. Management performance evaluation of swine farms also found that 4 were fair and 4 were needed to be improved. The results of t- test compared with the standard system farm and non-standard system farm found that pH, BOD, COD, SS, TDS, TKN, PO4, water utilization and electric utilization had no statistic difference at the significant level 0.05. Meanwhile, the amount of sludge/excrement had a statistical difference at the significant level 0.05.
