| dc.description.abstract | When considering the potentially transformative effects of CRISPR/Cas9 in boosting fruit crop productivity and sustainability, the CRISPR/Cas9 system, with its precision, efficiency, and adaptability, emerges as a game changer in genome editing. Fruits are crucial for agriculture and nutrition, but they face obstacles like as long periods of life, genetic complexity, and stresses from the environment. Traditional breeding is limited in addressing these issues, necessitating advanced biotechnological interventions. The research looks into the processes of CRISPR/Cas9, highlighting its applications in increasing features, including fruit quality, shelf lifespan, stress tolerance, and to diseases in a variety of fruit cultivars. Examples include citrus canker resistance, greater nutritional content in bananas, and longer shelf life in tomatoes. The chapter also looks at issues like low regeneration efficiency and off-target impacts, as well as the regulatory environment that makes it easier for gene-edited crops to reach markets. Last but not least, it envisages a time when CRISPR technology makes designer fruits possible, addressing issues of global food security while juggling ethical, legal, and consumer acceptance challenges. | |
