This research aims to study the wear and performance of three punches: SKH51 HW Coating, SKH40 HW Coating, and SKH51 PVD-TiCN Coating under the actual operating conditions. The findings showed that the SKH51 PVD-TiCN punch outperformed the other coated punches, such as HW Coating, having much less flank wear with an average of 0.124 mm. as compared to others at 120,000 strokes while having better dimensional stability. The effect of hardness and roughness of punch material on its wear resistance performance was significant, whereby wear resistance flank wear was best with high hardness and low roughness. Furthermore, considering the effect of price and performance, the SKH51 PVD-TiCN punch showed economic benefit whereby even an increase of price by 2.17% provided an increase in performance of 140% at 120,000 strokes. Therefore, this study enhances the understanding of the connections between coatings, wear resistance, and cost, suggesting possible ways for improvement of tools functionality for industry needs.
