Developing a music therapy assessment tool in communication and social development for children with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a specific music therapy assessment tool in communication and social development for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and examine validity and reliability of the music therapy assessment tool. The process consisted of two main sections: 1) developing music therapy test items by analyzing the contents of related literature and designing the assessment tool through focus group process, and 2) testing the quality of the assessment tool by using content validity, interrater reliability, and internal reliability. Results revealed 70 music therapy test items based on early childhood developmental milestone: 30 items in receptive communication skills, 22 items in expressive communication skills, and 18 items in social skills. Content validity done by five experts was acceptable (I-CVI = 0.87). In terms of the reliability testing, data from video observation of music therapy sessions by 10 music therapists were used to investigate the interrater and internal reliabilities. The interrater reliabilities were reliable with strong, positive correlation in client A (r = .69, n = 31, p = .000) and moderate, positive correlation in client B (r = .58, n = 31, p = .001). The internal reliabilities calculated by Cronbach's Alpha coefficient were acceptable in client A (α = 0.91) and B (α = 0.71). The results of validity and reliability testing showed that the quality of the assessment tool was strongly valid and reliable that suited for assessing the communication and social development of children with ASD in music therapy processes.

การวิจัยพัฒนาเครื่องมือประเมินนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อพัฒนาเครื่องมือประเมินทางดนตรีบำบัดด้านพัฒนาการทางการสื่อสารและสังคมสำหรับเด็กออทิซึม รวมถึงตรวจสอบความตรงและความเที่ยงของเครื่องมือประเมิน โดยกระบวนการวิจัยประกอบด้วย 2 ขั้นตอน คือ 1) การพัฒนาตัวชี้วัดและรูปแบบเครื่องมือ และ 2) การตรวจสอบคุณภาพเครื่องมือ 70 ตัวชี้วัดทางดนตรีบำบัดที่พัฒนาจากตัวชี้วัดตามลำดับพัฒนาการเด็ก ประกอบด้วย ตัวชี้วัดทางทักษะการเข้าใจภาษา 30 ข้อ ทักษะการใช้ภาษา 22 ข้อ และทักษะสังคม 18 ข้อ ซึ่งการตรวจสอบความตรงตามเนื้อหาของเครื่องมือโดยผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ 5 ท่านพบว่า เครื่องมือประเมินนี้มีความตรงตามเนื้อหาอยู่ในระดับที่ยอมรับได้หรือ 0.78 และจากการตรงสอบความเที่ยงจากการผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ 10 ท่าน ผ่านการสังเกตการณ์กิจกรรมดนตรีบำบัดผ่านเทปบันทึกภาพเคลื่อนไหวพบว่า เครื่องมือประเมินนี้มีค่าความเชื่อมั่นระหว่างผู้ประเมินในเกณฑ์สูงจากใช้เครื่องมือประเมินในเด็กออทิซึมคนที่ 1 (r = .69, n = 31, p = .000) และเกณฑ์ปานกลางในเด็กออทิซึมคนที่ 2 (r = .58, n = 31, p = .001) รวมถึงมีค่าความสอดคล้องภายในที่น่าเชื่อถือจากการใช้เครื่องมือประเมินในเด็กออทิซึมคนที่ 1 (α = 0.91) และเด็กออทิซึมคนที่ 2 (α = 0.71) ดังนั้นจากผลการทดลองสรุปได้ว่าเครื่องมือประเมินทางดนตรีบำบัดนี้ มีความสอดคล้องและมีความน่าเชื่อถือที่เหมาะสมต่อการ นำไปใช้ประเมินพัฒนาการทางการสื่อสารและสังคมในเด็กออกทิซึมผ่านกระบวนการทางดนตรีบำบัด
