Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to assess patient satisfaction and knowledge about transcatheter arterial chemoembolization after watching some video-based education. Methods: This was a quasiexperimental study with a prospectively recruited sample group of 30 hepatocellular carcinoma patients and their family caregivers. All participants watched the specially developed video-based education on transcatheter arterial chemoembolization before undergoing the procedure. Participants' pretest and post-test knowledge scores were compared using Student's paired t-test. The comparative satisfaction scores were analyzed and evaluated. Results: The post-test score of all participants was significantly higher than the pretest score (p-value <.001). The pretest score of the group who had previously experienced the procedure was significantly higher than those who had not experienced it. Post-test score was significantly higher than pretest in both groups (p-value <.001). All participants were highly satisfied with the video-based education. Conclusion: Patient knowledge of the transcatheter arterial chemoembolization procedure was improved by using video-based education. Patient satisfaction was very high. This approach could allow patients to participate more actively in their treatment, and in turn enhance the quality of healthcare in interventional radiology.
