Ethical guidelines for tapioca chips drying yard business in Thailand

Abstract

The study of ethical guidelines for tapioca chips drying yard business in Thailand is a qualitative research with objectives to 1) analyze ethical principles for the business of tapioca chips drying yard in Thailand

2) analyze characteristics and operational processes in the business of tapioca chips drying yard in Thailand

and 3) analyze and synthesize ethical guidelines for the business of tapioca chips drying yard in Thailand. In this study, data were collected through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with thirteen informants purposively selected from three groups of stakeholders. They were four business operators, six experts from public and private sectors, and three farmers. The data were analyzed using the method of content analysis through Conrad Lashley’s (2016) framework, “mapping ethics and morality in business practice.” Based on the results of the analysis, ethical guidelines were then synthesized for tapioca chips drying yard business in Thailand. The resulting ethical guidelines for tapioca chips drying yard business in Thailand included three processes of business operation: purchasing, producing, and selling. The guidelines for these processes responded to the eight dimensions in the framework of “mapping ethics and morality in business practice.” These dimensions are 1) social development and caring, 2) social responsibility and supporting, 3) reciprocity and fair play, 4) fairness, 5) truthfulness, 6) cheating and selfishness, 7) bullying and social irresponsibility, and 8) harming and social & environmental disengagement. In this study, an additional dimension was found. It is the dimension of empowerment.

การวิจัยกรอบแนวทางเชิงจริยธรรมในการดำเนินธุรกิจลานมัน เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ มีวัตถุประสงค์ ได้แก่ 1) วิเคราะห์หลักการทางจริยศาสตร์ในการดำเนินธุรกิจลานมันในประเทศไทย 2) วิเคราะห์ลักษณะกระบวนการในการดำเนินธุรกิจลานมันในประเทศไทย 3) วิเคราะห์และสังเคราะห์มิติทางจริยธรรมและกรอบแนวทางเชิงจริยธรรมในการดำเนินธุรกิจลานมันในประเทศไทย การศึกษาครั้งนี้ เก็บข้อมูลด้วยการสังเกตแบบมีส่วนร่วมและการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก โดยใช้วิธีเลือกผู้ให้ข้อมูลอย่างเจาะจงรวม 13 คน จากผู้มีส่วนได้ส่วนเสีย 3 กลุ่ม ได้แก่ ผู้ประกอบการลานมัน (4 คน) ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจากภาครัฐและเอกชน (6 คน) และเกษตรกร (3 คน) ใช้วิธีการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลตามกรอบแผนที่จริยธรรมและคุณธรรม ของ Conrad Lashley (2016) และนำผลที่ได้มาเป็นพื้นฐานสำหรับสังเคราะห์เป็นกรอบแนวทางเชิงจริยธรรมในการดำเนินธุรกิจลานมันในประเทศไทย กรอบแนว
