Hotel personnel participation in solid waste separation : a case study of hotels in Bangkok

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the attitude and extent of participation of personnel in solid waste separation in hotels, to find a role promotion guideline for hotel personnel in order to motivate them to take part in this activity. The study was based on related variables, including sex, age, education, position, working duration and knowledge level. It was a quantitive research using questionnaire forms distributed to 266 hotel staff and in-depth interviews with 19 hotel executives. The data analysis was carried out by frequency distribution, percentage, T-test, Anova and test variable relationship by Pearson. The results are summarized as follows: The comparative analysis was conducted to assess the attitude and extent of participation according to the variables. The analysis indicated that females had a more positive attitude to their male counterparts. Male personnel had different participation waste separation than their female counterparts (at 0.05 significant level). A further comparative analysis was done to assess attitude and participation, it was found that personnel with different education level had different attitudes and participation in waste separation (at 0.05 significant level). Personnel who held a Bachelor's degree or higher had a more positive attitude than their counterparts who had lower levels of education. However, the former participated less than the latter in waste separation. An analysis to consider the variable relationships found that age and knowledge were positively related to attitude and participation (at 0.05 significant level), working duration was not related to attitude and participation (at 0.05 significant level). An analysis found that individual's participation was positively related to attitude (at 0.05 significant level). The research found that the level of personnel participation was rather low. It is highly recommended that the management initiate and conduct regular training courses. Meanwhile, a serious and continuous campaign should be launched in order to instill personnel with positive awareness on solid waste separation in hotels.

การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาทัศนคติ และการมีส่วนร่วมของบุคลากรในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยในธุรกิจโรงแรมและเพื่อหาแนวทางการส่งเสริมบทบาทการมีส่วนร่วมของบุคลากรในการคัดแยกมูลฝอย โดยศึกษาตัวแปรที่เกี่ยวข้อง ได้แก่ เพศ อายุ ระดับการศึกษา ตำแหน่งหน้าที่ ระยะเวลาในการทำงาน และความรู้ การวิจัยในครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ โดยใช้แบบสอบถามกับระดับพนักงาน 266 ราย และ สัมภาษณ์แบบเจาะลึกกับระดับผู้บริหาร 19 ราย ทำการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยการใช้การแจกแจงความถี่ ค่าร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย t-test Anova และการทดสอบความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างตัวแปรด้วยสถิติวิเคราะห์ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์แบบเพียร์สัน รวมทั้งใช้ข้อมูลจากการสัมภาษณ์มาประกอบ ผลการวิจัย สรุปได้ดังนี้ เมื่อวิเคราะห์เปรียบเทียบค่าเฉลี่ยทัศนคติและการมีส่วนร่วมตามตัวแปรที่ทำการวิจัย พบว่าเพศชายและ เพศหญิงมีทัศนคติในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ 0.05 โดยเพศหญิงมีทัศนคติดีกว่า เพศชาย ในเรื่องการมีส่วนร่วม พบว่า เพศชายมีส่วนร่วมในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยแตกต่างจากเพศหญิงอย่างไม่มีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ 0.05 เมื่อวิเคราะห์เปรียบเทียบค่าเฉลี่ยทัศนคติและการมีส่วนร่วมตามตัวแปรที่ทำการวิจัย พบว่า พนักงานที่มีระดับการศึกษาแตกต่างกัน จะมีทัศนคติและการมีส่วนร่วมในการคัดแยกมูลฝอย แตกต่างกันอย่างมี นัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ 0.05 โดยมีผู้ที่จบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีขึ้นไปจะมีทัศนคติในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยสูงกว่าผู้ที่จบการศึกษาต่ำกว่าระดับปริญญาตรี แต่ผู้ที่จบการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีขึ้นไป จะมีส่วนร่วมในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยน้อยกว่าผู้ที่จบการศึกษาต่ำกว่าระดับปริญญาตรี เมื่อวิเคราะห์ในส่วนของความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างตัวแปร พบว่า อายุกับความรู้มีความสัมพันธ์เชิงบวกกับทัศนคติและการมีส่วนร่วมในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยที่ระดับนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ 0.05 ส่วนระยะเวลาในการทำงานไม่มีความสัมพันธ์กับทัศนคติและการมีส่วนร่วมในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยที่ระดับนัยสำคัญ ทางสถิติ 0.05 เมื่อวิเคราะห์หาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างการมีส่วนร่วมกับทัศนคติ พบว่า การมีส่วนร่วมของบุคลากรในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยมีความสัมพันธ์กับทัศนคติในเชิงบวกที่ระดับนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ 0.05 ข้อเสนอแนะที่ได้จากการวิจัย พบว่า บุคลากรยังมีส่วนร่วมน้อยในการคัดแยกมูลฝอย ดังนั้นทางโรงแรมจึงควรจัดให้มีการอบรมพนักงานอยู่เสมอ และควรมีการรณรงค์อย่างจริงจังและต่อเนื่อง เพื่อเสริมสร้างจิตสำนึกและการมีส่วนร่วมในการคัดแยกมูลฝอยในธุรกิจโรงแรม
