Good governance and efficiency of municipal administration

Abstract

.The objectives of this research are to study the level of working administration based on the three components of good governance (administration with participation, transparency, and responsibility), to study the level of efficiency in municipal administration and to study the relationship between the factors of working administration, the three components of good governance, and the efficiency of municipal administration. The sample groups of this research are 400 people who live in the municipal areas of Songkhla Province. The data analysis is descriptive statistic alanalysis, such as percentage, average, standard deviation and the analytical statistic: Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The research results are as follows: 1. All three components of good governance were at a moderate level. 2. A moderate level of municipal administrative efficiency was indicated by the satisfaction of people towards the municipal service on the basic structure, such as roads, irrigation, garbage and markets. 3. The three components of good governance: administration with participation, administration with transparency and administration with responsibility, have a positive relationship with the municipal administrative efficiency. Suggestions from the research are (1) the creation of a quality assurance system for the working administration consisting of strategies to improve leadership, knowledge management, staff development planning, and good governance administration, and a development of the good governance administrative manual. Thes ystem should also include a record of municipal governmental administrators' accounts for inspection and an establishment of administrative quality development and assurance of the municipal governmental institutions. (2) Offering more opportunity for people to participate, and informing people of their right to a complaint or comment system which includes feedback to the people concerned.
