dc.description.abstractThe main aim of this study was to investigate the effect of glass fiber, polymer and thickness to hinder the chloride ions penetration through the coated surface of concrete. The coatings were prepared with two different variations of glass fiber content as 1% and 1.5% by volume of mortar and three different percentages of polymer content as 10%, 15% and 20% by weight of cement. Two different thicknesses (3 and 5 mm) of coatings were coated selectively on concrete specimens. The chloride ions penetration test was modified by ASTM C 1202 (Standard Test Method for Electrical Indication of Concrete's Ability to Resist Chloride Ion Penetration). The results showed that the chloride ions penetration (CIP) was found to dramatically decrease with coated specimens. The CIP was also found to decrease with addition of polymer content but no significant change could be observed with different levels of polymer content. It could also be observed that the mortar coatings with glass fiber exhibited the CIP higher than those without glass fiber.
