Abstract
The purposes of this research were to study the level of students' attitudes toward five aspects of teaching and learning population education in School Population Awareness, including the course subjects, methods of teaching, activities of teaching, media of instruction, and classroom environment. Students' level of achievement in learning population education was assessed and the predictive factors affecting students' achievement in learning population education were investigated. The descriptive study applied a quantitative research method that collected data through a survey with 188 eleventh-grade students studying at the three pilot projects of School Population Awareness in Sukabumi, Indonesia. The data were analysed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The research findings indicated that students' attitudes toward all the five aspects of teaching and learning population education were rated at a high level, and their achievement was also rated at a high level. Attitudes toward the course subjects, the activities of teaching, and the methods of teaching were found as the predictive factors which had the highest significant effect on achievement in learning population education. Based on the findings, this research provides information for BKKBN (National Population and Family Planning Board), school sectors and other educational institutions on the effectiveness of teaching and learning population education in School Population Awareness to promote students' achievement in learning population education.
