การแปลงานเขียนเชิงสารคดีกีฬาจากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทย : เรื่อง Messi vs Ronaldo ของ Luca Caioli

Abstract

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีการแปลงานเขียนเชิงสารคดีกีฬาเรื่อง Messi vs. Ronaldo (2018) ของ Luca Caioli จำนวน 3 บท จากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทย การศึกษาครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพที่เน้นการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาเป็นหลัก ผู้วิจัยได้แปลบทที่ 1 บทที่ 2 และบทที่ 3 ด้วยตนเอง ผลการศึกษาพบว่ามีการนำกลวิธีการแปลมาปรับใช้และแก้ไขปัญหาทั้งหมด 3 กลวิธี ได้แก่ 1) การปรับบทแปล (ร้อยละ 52.76) ซึ่งแบ่งออกเป็นกลวิธีย่อย ดังนี้ ก) การปรับระดับคำด้วยการเติมคำคุณลักษณะ (ร้อยละ 37.62) ข) การปรับระดับโครงสร้างด้วยการปรับระดับเสียง (ร้อยละ 9.40) ค) การปรับระดับคำด้วยการใช้เชิงอรรถ (ร้อยละ 2.65) ง) การปรับระดับประโยคด้วยการเพิ่มและละคำในประโยค (ร้อยละ 1.22) จ) การปรับระดับคำด้วยการใช้วลีหรือประโยคแทนคำ (ร้อยละ 1.02) และ ฉ) การปรับระดับคำด้วยการเติมตัวเชื่อมระหว่างกลุ่มความคิดต่าง ๆ (ร้อยละ 0.81) 2) การแปลแบบเอาความ (ร้อยละ 39.26) และ 3) การแปลแบบตรงตัว (ร้อยละ 7.97) กลวิธีที่ใช้มากที่สุดในการแปล ได้แก่ การปรับบทแปลระดับคำด้วยการเติมคำคุณลักษณะ ซึ่งเป็นวิธีการแก้ปัญหาด้านการแปลที่เอื้อให้นักแปลสามารถถ่ายทอดความหมายของต้นฉบับได้ตามเจตนาของต้นฉบับถึงแม้จะมีความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรม เพื่อช่วยเพิ่มความชัดเจนและขยายความ โดยเฉพาะในกรณีการแปลชื่อเฉพาะที่ผู้อ่านทั่วไปอาจไม่คุ้นเคย นอกจากนี้ กลวิธีนี้ช่วยเพิ่มความกระชับในบทแปลมากขึ้น สอดรับกับความแตกต่างทางโครงสร้างไวยากรณ์ของภาษาต้นฉบับและภาษาปลายทาง แต่ในขณะเดียวกันก็เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้แปลสามารถนำเสนอข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมให้กับผู้อ่านได้ ผลการศึกษานี้สะท้อนให้เห็นว่า ในการแปลงานเขียนเชิงสารคดีประเภทกีฬานั้น กลวิธีการปรับบทแปลระดับคำด้วยการเติมคำคุณลักษณะ ควรเป็นกลวิธีที่เหมาะสมและมีประสิทธิภาพมากที่สุด และกลวิธีการแปลแบบตรงตัวเป็นกลวิธีที่เหมาะสมน้อยที่สุด เนื่องจากตัวบทมีสำนวนภาษาของข่าวกีฬาและการใช้คำศัพท์เฉพาะวงการฟุตบอลอยู่จำนวนมาก ผลการศึกษานี้จึงนับเป็นแนวทางอันเป็นประโยชน์ต่อทั้งการแปลสารคดีประเภทกีฬาและการเรียนการสอนด้านการแปลในการแปลสารคดีจากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทย

This qualitative study aimed to explore translation strategies used in translating Messi vs. Ronaldo (2018), a sports non-fiction book written by Luca Caioli. The first three chapters were translated by the study’s author from English into Thai. The findings indicate that there were three translation strategies used in the translation process, namely 1) modification (52.76%) which can be divided into six sub-strategies, including a) lexical modification with adjectives (37.62%), b) structure-level modification with transliteration (9.40%), c) word-level modification with footnotes (2.65%), d) sentence-level modification with lexical addition or omission (1.22%), e) word-level modification with phrase or sentence replacement (1.02%), and f) lexical modification with conjunctions (0.81%), 2) free translation (39.26%), and 3) literal translation (7.97%). The most frequently used strategy in the translation is lexical modification with adjectives because it allowed the translator to convey the original meaning comprehensively and effectively despite the cultural differences. Therefore, it helped offer greater clarity to facilitate the understanding of interested laypersons, especially in terms of original proper names. In addition, this strategy made the translated text more concise despite the grammatical differences between the languages and, at the same time, provided an opportunity to add information. This reflects that the most appropriate and efficient strategy for translating sports non-fiction books is lexical modification with adjectives, whereas the least appropriate and efficient strategy would be literal translation due to the high frequency of sports news register and football jargon in the original text. Therefore, based on these results, this research substantially contributes not only to sports non-fiction translation, but also non-fiction translation pedagogy from English into Thai.
