M. Leung; ลือพล ปุณณกันต์; Mahidol University. Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies.Three aquatic plants, coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum L.), hydrilla [Hydrilla verticillata (L. f.) Royle] and giant duckweed [Spirodela polyrhiza (L.) Schleiden], were successfully surface sterilized and cultured on liquid basal MS (Murashige... differences in the patterns of fresh weight increases of the three aquatic plants under monoculture and polyculture conditions. Among the three macrophytes studied, coontail was the most sensitive to 0.25 or 0.5 mg/l PBZ as its fresh weights did not increasePublication Metadata only Phytoremediation of engineered nanoparticles using aquatic plants: Mechanisms and practical feasibility(2020-07-01) Parisa Ebrahimbabaie; Weeradej Meeinkuirt; John Pichtel; Ball State University; Mahidol University© 2020 Certain plants have demonstrated the capability to take up and accumulate metals, thus offering the potential to remediate metal-contaminated water and sediment. Several aquatic species have further been identified which can take up metal... and metal oxide engineered nanoparticles (ENPs). It is important to evaluate if aquatic plants exhibiting potential for metal phytoremediation can be applied to remediation of metallic ENPs. Understanding the interactions between ENPs and aquatic plantsPublication Metadata only Ecotoxicogenomic approaches for understanding molecular mechanisms of environmental chemical toxicity using aquatic invertebrate, Daphnia model organism(2015-05-29) Hyo Jeong Kim; Preeyaporn Koedrith; Young Rok Seo; Institute of Environmental Medicine for Green Chemistry; Department of Life Science; Mahidol Universityin ecological risk assessment. Indeed, Daphnia is a model species to study aquatic environmental toxicity designated in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s toxicity test guideline and to investigate expression patterns using... adverse phenotypic outcomes linked to particular gene function(s) and mechanistic understanding of aquatic ecotoxicology as well as exploration of useful biomarkers. Furthermore, key challenges that currently face aquatic ecotoxicology (e.g., predictingPublication Metadata only Contingency plan improvement for managing oil spills in the coastal waters of Thailand.(2014-12-15) Nuanchan Singkran; นวลจันทร์ สิงห์คราญ; Mahidol University. Faculty of Environment and Resource StudiesThe estimated risks of being impacted by oil spills in the coastal waters were used to improve the oil spill contingency plan of Thailand. Functional roles of local agencies are integrated into the plan. Intensive measures are suggested for the coastal provinces located in high-very high risk zones, whereas light and moderate measures are suggested for the coastal provinces located in low and moderate risk zones, respectively. The estimated percentage risks due to simulated oil slicks hitting the coast and/or important resources (PRoilspill) were used to guide the year-round water activities that should be carefully handled at a certain radius with a low-moderate PRoilspill, whereas they should be avoided at a certain radius with a high-very high PRoilspill. Important measures before, during, and post periods of an oil spill incident are suggested to prevent and monitor oil spill incidents and mitigate their impacts on the environment.Publication Open Access Aquatic ecology and biodiversity around Khao Pra Wiharn National Park, Thailand(2011-12) Suchart Nawagawong; Nukul Sangpun; Mahidol University. Faculty of Environment and Natural Resource StudiesThe area 4.6 km2 in the Pra Wiharn National Park is the area along the border line between Thailand and Cambodia. This area is still maintaining the problem in overlaps claming between this two countries. If the Pra Wiharn Temple, in which is locating in the area 4.6 km2, was nominated as the world heritage site then the area 4.6 km2 will be basically sensitively in the ecology system. The ecology system of Sra Trao pond ,in which only one water source above the Pa Mo I Daeng Cliff and the other running water sources, on the open area near the Temple, as the temporary pools should be studied and collected data for planning as the sustainable ecological area.Publication Metadata only Aquatic plants for phytostabilization of cadmium and zinc in hydroponic experiments(2018-05-01) Theeta Sricoth; Weeradej Meeinkuirt; Patompong Saengwilai; John Pichtel; Puntaree Taeprayoon; South Carolina Commission on Higher Education; Ball State University; Mahidol University; Navamindradhiraj University© 2018, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature. Cadmium (Cd) may be toxic to aquatic plants even at modest concentrations, and excessive quantities of zinc (Zn) decrease plant performance. The Cd and Zn phytoremediation potential... of several aquatic plant species (Thalia geniculate, Cyperus alternifolius, Canna indica, Eichhornia crassipes, Pistia stratiotes) and one grass species (Vetiveria zizanioides) was evaluated in hydroponic experiments. Vetiveria zizanioides, E. crassipesPublication Metadata only Occurrence, fate and risk assessment of biocides in wastewater treatment plants and aquatic environments in Thailand(2019-11-10) Kanokthip Juksu; Jian Liang Zhao; You Sheng Liu; Li Yao; Charoon Sarin; Siranee Sreesai; Pantip Klomjek; Yu Xia Jiang; Guang Guo Ying; Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry Chinese Academy of Sciences; University of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Naresuan University; Mahidol University; South China Normal University© 2019 Elsevier B.V. This study investigated the occurrence and fate of 19 biocides in 8 wastewater treatment plants and receiving aquatic environments (both freshwater and estuarine systems) in Thailand. The predominant compound in wastewater... that clotrimazole and triclosan could pose high risks to aquatic organisms in the receiving aquatic environments.Publication Metadata only In vitro shoot multiplication of Lobelia cardinalis L., an aquatic ornamental plant(2021-10-01) S. Rittirat; S. Klaocheed; K. Thammasiri; Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University; Mahidol University; Prince of Songkla UniversityLobelia cardinalis L. is an underwater plant, used worldwide for aquarium ornamentation. A successful protocol is described for rapid and large-scale propagation of an ornamental aquatic plant, Lobelia cardinalis L. by in vitro culture of shoot tip... explants. The shoots of an ornamental aquatic plant, Lobelia cardinalis L. from ex vitro were surface sterilized using 4% Clorox® (5.25% sodium hypochlorite, NaOCl) for 10 min followed by rinsing three times with sterile distilled water. They were againPublication Metadata only Notes on the aquatic ecology of Lithoglyphopsis aperta(1976-12-01) V. Kitikoon; C. R. Schneider; Mahidol University
