Neuropathic arthropathy of the elbow: A report of two cases
(2006-04-01) Aasis Unnanuntana; Saranatra Waikakul; Mahidol University
Background: Neuropathic arthropathy (charcot joint) of the elbow is a rare condition. It is among the least frequently reported charcot pathology of the joint. The clinical symptoms are characterized by a painless and unstable joint. Infection... in the neuropathic joint is rare. Only a limited number of cases have been reported in the literature. The authors present two cases of neuropathic arthropathy of the elbow. One of them was diagnosed as Septic neuropathic arthropathy. Material and Method: Two

    Neglected dislocation of the elbow
(2005-02-01) Banchong Mahaisavariya; Wiroon Laupattarakasem; Mahidol University; Khon Kaen University
We retrospectively review the intermediate-term to long-term results of 24 patients treated after late open reduction of neglected posterior elbow dislocation in terms of the elbow, particularly noting joint mobility. The mean interval from injury... to operation was 7.9 months (range, 1-60 months). The posterior approach with V-Y muscleplasty was used in most patients with 2 to 3 weeks postoperative immobilization. The average preoperative arc of elbow flexion was from 17° with an average maximum flexion

© The Author(s) 2018. Purpose: To report the midterm outcome of a novel reconstructive technique using a contoured iliac crest bone graft for partial radial head replacement in the treatment of complex elbow dislocation. Material and methods...: Between January 2008 and December 2013, 10 patients (5 women, 5 men; mean age, 43.8 years; mean follow-up duration, 65.9 months) with complex elbow dislocation who underwent the partial radial head replacement with the contoured bone graft were included

Elbow joint proprioceptive sense in total arm-type brachial plexus injured patients after neurotization: A preliminary study
(2014-01-01) Therdsak Homsreprasert; Roongsak Limthongthang; Torpon Vathana; Saichol Wongtrakul; Panupan Songcharoen; Mahidol University
of proprioceptive sensation in brachial plexus injured patients after neurotization. Objective: To study elbow joint position sense or proprioceptive sense in total arm-type brachial plexus injured patients after neurotization. Material and Method: The present study...-type brachial plexus injured patients after neurotization, the latter seven of whom experienced recovery of motor power of biceps to at least MRC III. All patients were examined using the CONTREX dynamometer to assess elbow joint position sense

Effect of shorter nerve graft and selective motor branch of recipient nerve on nerve transfer surgery for elbow flexion in patients with brachial plexus injury
    (2023-11-01) Pengked K.; Laohaprasitiporn P.; Monteerarat Y.; Limthongthang R.; Vathana T.; Mahidol University
OBJECTIVE: The spinal accessory nerve (SAN) is commonly used as a donor nerve for reinnervation of elbow flexors in brachial plexus injury (BPI) reconstruction. However, no study has compared the postoperative outcomes between SAN...-to-musculocutaneous nerve (MCN) transfer and SAN-to-nerve to biceps (NTB) transfer. Thus, this study aimed to compare the postoperative time to recovery of elbow flexors between the two groups. METHODS: A total of 748 patients who underwent surgical treatment for BPI

Spinal accessory neurotization for restoration of elbow flexion in avulsion injuries of the brachial plexus
    (1996-01-01) P. Songcharoen; B. Mahaisavariya; C. Chotigavanich; Mahidol University
Traumatic root avulsion brachial plexus injuries in 216 patients were treated with spinal accessory-musculocutaneous neurotization to restore elbow flexion. The average postoperative follow-up period was 6 years, with a minimum of 2 years for all... underwent operation later than 9 months after injury. This method of neurotization produces a result comparable with, if not better than, the results of other types of neurotization in restoration of elbow flexion.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the anatomical features of the lateral collateral complex (LCC) of the elbow in a Thai population. We dissected 56 cadaveric elbows and described the LCC three-dimensionally in sagittal and coronal planes... sexes. These data may be useful for surgeons during reconstruction of injures to the LCC of the elbow. Level of evidence: V

The efficacy of pediatric elbow radiographic guidance in diagnosis of lateral humeral condyle fracture
    (2024-03-01) Vasaruchapong S.; Woratanarat P.; Patathong T.; Woratanarat T.; Jaovisidha S.; Angsanunsukh C.; Vasaruchapong S.; Mahidol University
Although lateral humeral condyle fracture is common, the incidence of missed diagnosis is very high. Delayed and missed diagnosis led to significant morbidities and loss of functions. We designed a pediatric elbow radiographic guidance aiming... for assessing the pediatric elbow radiographs. We included medical students, emergency medicine, orthopedic, and radiology residents and fellows into this study. A questionnaire was used to evaluate the efficacy of the guidance. All participants underwent a
