2015 Nepal earthquake : communicable disease occurrences and management in Gorkha district
(Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2017) Cadiao, Shylene Belle Alayon, 1985-; Naparat Kranrattanasuit; Kapil, Shrestha
Nepal faced different challenges in disaster response following the 2015 catastrophe. Amongst was the management on communicable disease occurrences in the aftermath of an earthquake. The main objective of this study was to analyze how the government specifically in Gorkha District managed the occurrences of communicable diseases aligned to the existing health law, policy and plan the Ministry of Health has. This study utilized a qualitative research approach through the description to the management of communicable disease occurrences post-disaster incorporating Nepal's health legal instruments. This study analyzed government documents, official reports, and responses from the interviewees. The respondents of this study were composed of health care experts (2), health care workers (12), and disaster victims (66) in the district. This study found that several provisions on the right to health were not applied in reality particularly in the issues of insufficient data recording on syndromic disease cases, shortage on health workforce, insufficient supply of essential medicines, unmanaged overcrowding in temporary shelter, lack of access to safe water and sanitation, untimely and incomplete reporting on syndromic disease surveillance, and the lack of awareness on country's health law, policy and plan of some health workers in the villages. These are clear indications of noncompliance of the state's obligations stipulated in International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights 1966, Constitution of Nepal 2015 and National Health Policy 2014. This further led to some recommendations for some modifications on the program implementations on the underlying determinants of health and some positive adjustments on the health approaches on the management of communicable disease occurrences post disaster.

(Mahidol University, 2022) Sujira Ratchatapongthorn; Sotarat Thammaboosadee; Rojjalak Chuckpaiwong
Nowadays, the Technology-driven era, the impacts of rapid technology development affect the needs of businesses. New business model challenges would not only change current careers and current roles but create new types of careers. This situation creates a gap between supply and demand regarding market needs and the number of experts in technological knowledge. The purpose of this study was to analyze emerging job trends and skills needed in the past demi-decade (from 2015 to 2020) using a descriptive analysis method and data visualization. Data were collected from LinkedIn's job postings to get market needs directly and emerging careers, both national and international. It was found that (1) there are many similarities of skills between those emerging careers. This will be an opportunity for employees to change positions, or the benefit of consolidating positions to reduce the organization's cost; (2) while a machine can perform a given task more efficiently than humans can, it lacks the artistry and feeling in activities. That is a unique human ability and human common sense to serve the needs of the individual. Therefore, the replacing human labor with machines may be possible only partially; (3) In the future, there will be a huge demand for information-related careers and cognitive skills to develop organization quality. Based on the major findings, the research is conducted as a documented guideline for developing the skills and abilities to people in the country, to raise education quality and business’s human resource development, to be equal to global. (Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2018) Sudasiri Sriwiang; Sotarat Thammaboosadee; Somkiat Wattanasirichaigoon; Oraluck Pattanaprateep
Breast cancer is a common cancer that is the leading cause of death in women. Prediction model of breast cancer risk factors also cannot build a model with high accuracy and high precision. Drug use is considered to be another factor that should be aware as being associated with breast cancer. The aim of this study was to identify patterns of association between barest cancer and drug used data and create a breast cancer prediction model from non-cancer drug used data. Modeling process consisted of 3 methods: Association rule, Correlation and Classification methods. The result showed that the machine learning could create models to predict breast cancer with data that include multiple variables and complex data. Findings also showed that there was an association between medication and breast cancer by using the association rule mining. Measurement of medication weight by correlation showed that atorvastatin calcium had the maximum weight. The model created by classification method, gradient boosted tree (GBT), was the best with high accuracy (0.91) and precision (0.88).

A business intelligence system for tracing and analyzing healthcare performance measurement base on the KPIs from the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand from 2013
(Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2015) Paiboon Udomkaewkanchana; Supaporn Kiattisin; Taweesak Samanchuen
This thematic paper presents a business intelligence system for tracking and analyzing healthcare performance measurement based on the KPIs (key performance indicators) of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand from 2013. Forty-three data source files from Metta Pracharak Hospital (Wat Rai Khing) and details of the 66 KPIs from the fiscal year 2013 of the Ministry of Public Health were used to design and generate reports regarding the KPIs. Forty-three data source files were used in reference to only 24 KPIs. The other KPIs need data source files from other organizations such as the National Cancer Institute, Provincial Public Health Office, Department of Disease Control, etc. The forty-three data source files from Metta Pracharak Hospital (Wat Rai Khing) could not be used in reference to the other KPIs because it is a hospital that specializes in eye treatment, so they do not have any data for other illnesses. To create reports, it is necessary to have example data, but the available data imported into this system was incomplete and did not encompass all of the KPIs. The 43 files still lack accuracy of data, data integrity and traceability. In the future, the forty-three data source files need to be updated for data collection and data transmission from the health center to the Provincial Public Health continuing on to the Ministry of Public Health. This will help to provide even more accurate information and will be beneficial to the health system in the future.

(Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2024) Pimonluk Kewlchum; Sarinya Sungkatavat; Veerades Panvisavas
The purpose of this research is to study consumer's insight in purchasing behavior of coffee consumption among young adults and middle youths in the Sathorn area to develop a marketing strategy, business model, and financial plan for 'Teak Specialty Coffee Shop'. The location of the shop is located in Soi Sathorn 13 which is the central business district in Thailand and is also surrounded by many schools, multinational companies, and Saint Louis Hospital. The research is a quantitative study and used questionnaires surveys to collect the data. The survey was conducted by interviewing 384 respondents aged between 18 to 44 years old and work/live/study in the Sathorn area. The results of the survey were analyzed by descriptive statistics in terms of percentage, frequency, and average. Furthermore, the T-test was calculated to analyze if the behaviors of young adults and middle youth were different. The overall results illustrate that the majority of respondents were office employees, accounting for 50.4 percent. Fresh coffee was the most preferable type of coffee, and this type was the most often consumed. Most of the respondents, approximately 81.3 percent, drank one or two cups per day. The top three purchase intention factors were the taste of coffee, price, and convenience. The most attractive promotions were 'free delivery' and 'point redemption'. Due to the high demand for specialty coffee within young adults and middle youths, 'Teak Specialty Coffee Shop' has an opportunity to start the business in the Sathorn area. Therefore, the marketing strategies (price, place, product, and promotion), business model, and financial plan for 'Teak Specialty Coffee Shop' are formulated based on the research results.

A case study exploring Piano pedagogy in Yangon, Myanmar
(Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2016) Aung, Chan Nyein; Anak Charanyananda; Fyr, Kyle R.
The topic of this thesis is a case study exploring piano pedagogy in Yangon, Myanmar. The purpose of this research was to study piano teaching and learning, to study and gain a comprehensive understanding of current piano teaching pedagogies and the challenges and obstacles of piano teaching in Yangon/Myanmar. The researcher employed the qualitative research method in this study. This research was conducted for the purpose of exploring 1) a current piano teaching process, 2) the condition of piano teaching and learning in Yangon, and 3) the problems and obstacles of piano teaching and learning in Yangon, Myanmar. This research serves to examine the development of piano teaching and the teaching process in Yangon/Myanmar focusing on the piano pedagogy employed by contemporary Myanmar piano teachers. Eight piano teachers, who have at least 10 years' experience as piano teachers, were interviewed. The results of this research revealed that piano teachers in Yangon/Myanmar cannot yet fully undertake the essential competencies of comprehensive piano teaching and musicianship. The common problems are students' lack of interest in music, a majority of piano teachers are not qualified enough, and the tuition system in Myanmar education offers less piano practice time for the students. Parental involvement is also currently very weak in Myanmar, but parents can help with their children's piano studies by understanding how important their role is. This thesis offers various recommendations to enable piano teachers in Yangon/Myanmar to improve the level of their teaching.

A case study of Bhutanese teachers' and students' perception on using literary texts as English as a second language teaching and learning materials
(Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2015) Tshering, Tshomo; Kornsiri Boonyaprakob; Wiwat Puntai
Literary texts have been used in ESL/EFL (English as a Second Language/English as a Foreign Language) education for long time. However, because of its complex language structure, there were arguments over its successful implementation. Although there are several studies conducted with University students and teachers, there have been no studies on school teachers' and students' about using literary texts as teaching and learning materials and little is known about the revised literary texts in Bhutanese ESL curriculum since 2006. Therefore, this study was aimed at exploring Bhutanese teachers' and students' perception of using literary texts as ESL teaching and learning materials. Two hundred and eleven students and three teachers of classes nine and ten from one Bhutanese school participated in this study. Quantitative data were collected by administering survey questionnaire adapted from Kim (2010) on 211 students. Later, qualitative data was gathered from two separate focused group interviews with a group of four students and another group of three teachers. After triangulating the data from the three data sources, the findings indicated that both the teachers and the students perceived that the literary texts facilitated not only teaching and learning process but also assessing students' progress and achievement. Nevertheless, literary texts were also perceived inadequate for learning factual current affairs and grammar. Furthermore, the findings suggest that in order to benefit from literary texts, appropriate teaching approaches and selection of literary genres need to be considered.

A case study of communication issues in a medical firm in Thailand
(Mahidol University. Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center, 2024) Samita Pandey; Varang Wiriyawit; Wei, Xiaoxia
Communication has always played a vital role in interacting with and transmitting messages between people all over the world, but as society has become increasingly complex, communication breakdowns have become more common, sometimes with serious consequences. This study aimed to identify 1) the major communication issues in a medical firm in Thailand and 2) the key factors that cause ineffective communication in a medical firm in Thailand. In order to achieve this, semi-structured interviews were employed to collect data from thirteen professionals working in a Thai medical firm. The findings showed that communication breakdowns occurred most often when communications involved medical terminologies and/or the overwhelming amount of information that usually accompanies communications within this industry. These two factors were further exacerbated by a lack of medical knowledge and workplace pressure in terms of the workload faced by many individuals within the medical industry.
