College of Music. Strings and Chamber Music DepartmentThe creative work project “A Prototype of a Card Game for Recognizing Orchestral Musical Instruments” aims to create an educational card game with the intention of helping people who has no music background recognize musical instruments in an orchestra, and also provides an educational tool for teachers to teach when instructing about instruments in an orchestra. By reviewing the information and analyzing many games for educational purposes and entertainment purposes, the project developed the first draft design. After that, the playtest sessions took place, and the final prototype of the game was developed. The final prototype of the game consists of a game rule sheet and card deck with 69 cards total: 4 Conductor Cards, 30 Instrument Cards, 14 Musician Cards, 10 Audience Cards, 10 Reference Cards, and 1 Turn Tracking Card. The product prototype has been submitted to be patented and trademarked. This project hoped to obtain the following benefits: 1) Players who are non-musicians and can only recognize a handful of the instruments in the orchestra, could recognize the instruments and understand their roles easily after playing the game; 2) The scope of music education as a whole can be broadened; 3) To create the opportunity to attract more people to engage in activities of classical music.
