An efficient micropropagation protocol for a potential medicinal plant, Kaempferia parviflora Wall, ex Baker, was established. We investigated the effects of plant growth regulators (PGRs) and the duration of PGR treatment on shoot regeneration. Terminal buds were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 35.52 uM 6-benzylaminopurine for 8 weeks then transferred to PGR-free MS for a further 4 weeks. After a second cycle, we obtained 47.3 ± 3.4 shoots per initial explant, after a total of 24 weeks of culture. Rooting was spontaneous. Approx. 20,000 regenerants were successfully transferred to soil and subsequently grown in the field.en_US
