Abstract

Phakawadi Uttamot applies two different approaches, rearrangement and translation, to her translating of children's literature. The sole factor responsible for her decision on using different translation approaches is a socio-cultural factor which includes patronage, poetics and ideology. Although she owns the publisher publishing all of her translations, patronage is the most distinguishing factor that influences her decision on using different translation approaches. In her case, the periodicals publishing her works were her patrons before she established her own publisher. Later, after establishing the Butterfly Book House, her own publisher has become her patron.
