Abstract
The objective of this research is to study the habits and behaviours of wild elephants as well as the environment that they are in. Apart from this,the research is also extended to include an investigation into the ways of life of the farmers around the area of interest. The conditions that would be suitable for the acceptance of living between the farmers and wild elephants are also explored in great detail. The relevant variables that are associated with this research are status, gender, age, occupation, number of members in the family, length of stay in the area, area of land that has been intruded on and destroyed by the elephants, income per annum, amount of land owned, amount of land rented, and the period of ownership of the land. The sample group that has been utilized in this research includes the farmers that have their farms in the area that is next to the forest, also known as the buffer zone. The farmers that are used for the purpose of this research are from many villages, such as 170 households from Ruamthai village, 65 households from Yarnsuei village, and 16 households from Pubom village, altogether totaling 251 households. The results obtained are then analyzed by average value (X), standard deviation (S.D), t-test, variance, and LSD analysis. The results achieved show that the farmers have positive opinions (X=4.03, S.D=0.99) towards the proposed solution to the problem concerning the confrontation between the farmers and the elephants. This proposal states that the farmers should be paid a certain compensation that is proportional to the amount of land that has been destroyed by the elephants. So, this agrees with the researchers hypothesis, which says that if there is a proper way to manage a compensation method for the farmers, then this would lead to an acceptance of living between the farmers and the elephants. When the results are analyzed by using variance, which is concerned with the variables about time of occupancy of their land, there seem, to be a discrepancy in their opinions, at a significant level of 0.05. As for the LSD analysis, the results achieved illustrate that the farmers that have owned their land for 1-10 years, and more than 21 years have different opinions on this matter, at a significant level of 0.05. There are a few recommendations that the researcher has come up with that would help to the solve the concerned crisis. First of all, one should set up an organization that is responsible for the payment of compensation to the farmers whose lands have been invaded and destroyed by the elephants. Another method is to urge that research be conducted that is relevant to the present problem, in order to solve the predicament that the both the farmers and the elephants are facing.
การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาสภาพการดำรงชีวิตของช้างป่า สภาพ การดำรงชีวิตของเกษตรกร และศึกษารูปแบบที่เหมาะสมสำหรับการอยู่ร่วมกันระหว่าง เกษตรกรกับช้างป่า โดยทำการศึกษาตัวแปรที่เกี่ยวข้อง คือ สถานภาพ เพศ อายุ อาชีพหลัก จำนวนสมาชิกในครอบครัว ระยะเวลาที่อยู่อาศัยในพื้นที่ จำนวนที่ดินที่ถูกช้างลงกิน พืชไร่ รายได้ครอบครัวต่อปี จำนวนที่ดินที่ถือครอง จำนวนที่ดินที่เช่า (ไร่) ระยะเวลา ที่ถือครอง ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจ กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ ชาวบ้านที่มีพื้นที่ติดริมป่าหรือที่เรียกว่า แนวกันชน (BUFFER ZONE) ซึ่งประกอบด้วย หมู่บ้านรวมไทยจำนวน 170 ครัวเรือน บ้านย่านซื่อจำนวน 65 ครัวเรือน และบ้านพุบอน จำนวน 16 ครัวเรือน รวมทั้งสิ้น 251 ครัวเรือน ทำการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้ค่าเฉลี่ย (X) ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน (S.D.) ค่าสถิติ t-test การวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวน การ วิเคราะห์รายคู่โดยใช้ LSD จากผลการวิจัยพบว่า เกษตรกรมีความคิดเห็นอยู่ในระดับเห็นด้วย (X=4.03, S.D. =0.99) กับวิธีการแก้ปัญหาระหว่างเกษตรกรกับช้างป่า โดยจ่ายค่าชดเชยให้กับเกษตรกร ที่ได้รับความเสียหายจากช้างป่าที่จะมากินพืชไร่ ซึ่งเป็นไปตามสมมติฐานของการวิจัย ที่ว่า ถ้ามีการจัดการพื้นที่ด้านการเกษตรและมีการจัดการด้านผลตอบแทน (ชดเชยค่า เสียหายจากการกินของช้าง) ได้เหมาะสมจะทำให้เกษตรกรและช้างป่าสามารถอยู่ร่วมกันได้ เมื่อวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวนตามตัวแปรที่ศึกษา ระยะเวลาที่ถือครองต่างกันมีความคิดเห็น แตกต่างกัน อย่างมีนัยสำคัญที่ระดับ 0.05 เมื่อวิเคราะห์ความแตกต่างรายคู่โดยใช้ LSD พบว่า เกษตรกรที่มีระยะเวลาที่ถือครองที่ดิน 1-10 ปีขึ้นไป กับ 21 ปีขึ้นไป แตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญที่ระดับ 0.05 ข้อเสนอแนะ จากการวิจัยครั้งนี้ ควรหาวิธีการที่เหมาะสมในการจ่ายค่าชดเชย ให้แก่เกษตรกร ที่ได้รับความเสียหาย โดยหาหน่วยงานเข้ามารับผิดชอบในการจ่ายค่าชดเชย ให้แก่เกษตรกรที่ได้รับความเสียหาย และมีการทำวิจัยหาแนวทางแก้ปัญหากับพื้นที่ ที่ประสบปัญหาระหว่างคนกับช้างในพื้นที่อื่น ๆ
