Abstract
The aim of this research was to analyse the pathway to sexual resilience of young Indonesian women after an abortion(s) was done. This research drew the experience of 16 unmarried young women, aged between 18-24 years old living in a country which restrictively give abortion services Indonesia, and has at least one abortion in their life. In order to gain a deeper understanding, 11 abortion providers were also interviewed. Using in-depth interview methods, this research has been conducted for six months in Central Java and Yogyakarta Indonesia. The findings showed that abortion discourse in Indonesia is abortion as crime and sinful action, yet the informants could negotiate their own discourse: abortion as a most rational decision, a fetus choice , and women's rights. In order to enhance their resiliency especially in sexual life as an outcome, the informants have to gain support from significant other without disclosing abortion story, re-identify their identity as good women, and achieve access to the material resources. As a sign of sexual resiliency, they could express their sexuality in ways that are more positive: achieving equal relationship with their intimate partner, agency to choose and the safer sex practise. It is recommended that abortion service should be women centred and the comprehensive access to contraceptive should be provided to enhance safer sex practices
