งานวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษาสัญลักษณ์สำคัญในพิธีไหว้ครูดนตรีไทย โดยแบ่งการศึกษาออกเป็น 2 ส่วน คือ สัญลักษณ์สำคัญที่ปรากฏในองค์ประกอบของพิธีไหว้ครูดนตรีไทย และ สัญลักษณ์สำคัญที่ปรากฏในขั้นตอนการประกอบพิธีไหว้ครูดนตรีไทย ผลของการศึกษาพบว่า สัญลักษณ์สำคัญที่ปรากฏในองค์ประกอบของพิธีไหว้ครูดนตรีไทย คือ เทพสังคีต, ขันกำนล, เครื่องสังเวย, และวันพฤหัสบดี ส่วนสัญลักษณ์สำคัญที่ปรากฏในขั้นตอน การประกอบพิธีไหว้ครูดนตรีไทย คือ บาตรน้ำมนต์-การเจิม-ผ้าหน้าโขน, วัฒนธรรมการจัด ตำแหน่งสิ่งของต่างๆ ในพิธีกรรม และดนตรีที่ใช้ประกอบในพิธีกรรม สัญลักษณ์สำคัญที่ปรากฏทั้ง 2 ส่วนในพิธีกรรม เป็นระบบสัญลักษณ์ที่มีความหมายลึกซึ้งกว้างขวางกว่าสิ่งที่มองเห็น และสะท้อนภาพทางวัฒนธรรมไทยในเรื่องของ วิธีคิด วิถีชีวิต การอบรมทางจริยธรรม และสิ่งที่ควรและไม่ควรปฏิบัติในสังคม
This thesis aims at a study of significant symbols in Thai Court Music's Wai Khru ceremony. The study is divided into two parts, (a) Symbols that are used throughout the entire ceremony and (b) symbols that appear at various stages a process of the ceremony. The symbols that are used throughout the entire ceremony are Khan Kamnol, the receptacle for offerings, and Krueng Sangwey, offerings of food, fruit or flowers. The day that the ceremony is held, Thursday, is also symbolic. The symbols introduced at various stages of the ceremony are Bart Nammon, the vessel for lustral water, and the Pha Na Khon, the robes worn at the ceremony. There is symbolic meaning also in the traditional routines of setting the particular object and musical instruments used in the ceremony. These two kinds of significant symbol are part of a symbolic system which is deeper and wider than it appears to be. They are a cultural reflection of a way of thinking, a way of life, moral training, and proper action in society and social life.
