Abstract
© 2015, Elsevier Limited. All rights reserved. Laser peripheral iridoplasty is a simple, noninvasive, and effective procedure to open an appositional closed angle. The procedure offers an alternative treatment of acute angle closure when laser iridotomy cannot be performed. It is also useful in certain conditions with angle closure, such as plateau iris syndrome, lens-related angle closure, and choroidal effusion, whose angle-closure mechanisms other than pupillary block are also present and do not respond to laser iridotomy. Since LPI provides only a temporary measure to relieve the angle closure, subsequent laser iridotomy, therapeutic lens removal or other definitive treatment to eliminate the underlying mechanisms is needed.
