Nowadays, due to technological advanced world, every construction technique is becoming more and more complex with numerous risks. In Project management, crucial challenges for project performance in term of cost, quality, time and safety is undertaken by using risk analysis that pose the component of every bridge construction project. Cost overrun is one issue affecting the construction of bridge projects. To be successful, it needs effective cost overrun risk management concerning identification of risks, evaluating of risks and mitigating risks. The purpose of this thesis is to conduct cost overrun risk identification and evaluation combined system bridges. Several sets of questionnaires are used to collect data from experienced engineers in bridge construction project. The results of the survey revealed that the top ten cost overrun risks in bridge construction include Political complexities and economic instability, poor project management (inadequate project analysis), change construction method, lack of design team understanding of cost and value, work suspensions owing to conflicts, financial difficulties of owners/contractor, technical complexity of a project, shortage of technical/technicians’ personnel (skilled labor), poor site management and supervision and Lack of Warning Signboard. This paper only limits the combined system bridges (Steel Truss and reinforced concrete girder) in tidal zone and delta area in Myanmar. IMPLICATION OF THESIS: This research highlights the cost overrun risks of bridge construction especially combined system bridge in delta area and tidal zone in Myanmar. Brainstorming method, Bridge Construction Information Classification System (BCICS) with Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) were used to find new cost overrun risks. The results were suggested to reduce its likelihood or impacts the basis for making decisions in bridge construction projects. The study will discover a further detailed observation toward the better cost overrun mitigation plans although comprehensive lists of recommended actions were made based on bridge construction experts’ suggestions and experiences.
