Toxicology (Mahidol University 1987)
dc.description.abstractrevealed an increase of vital dye stained cells, the leakage of LDH into incubation medium and the decrease in cellular level of ATP concomitantly with the increased ADP and AMP levels. This evidence also supported by the decreased energy charge in T-2 treated AS30D cell. These cytotoxicities in duced by T-2 toxin could effectively be prevented by isoptin at all calcium concentrations studied. In the animal, T-2 toxin significantly induced an increase in calcium uptake to the skin exposed to T-2 toxin topically. This effect could effectively be reduced by either isoptin or dexamethasone. The result obtained indicated at least 2 concerted mechanisms involving in the toxicity of T-2 toxin. The calcium dependent cytotoxicity that could effectively be prevented by isoptin and the calcium independent cytotoxic effect. The precise mechanism remains to be further elucidated.
